PoE forgetting the display every time I restart my computer
Hello dear exiles,
I have 3 screens, the central one (#0) being the one which I want to use a Windows default, and the left one (#1) the one on which I want to play PoE. My problem is that everytime I restart my computer, PoE gets moved to Display #0 (central) and I have to manually enter settings and switch display to #1. Ever had this issue ? Any solution ? Note : I'm using the standalone client, not Steam. Last bumped on Oct 29, 2024, 4:12:32 AM

I have the same exact issue! However it only started for me 2 days ago, after I switched from DirectX11 to Vulcan.

" " How are you switching it between different monitors? Windows shortcut keys or with the in game settings?
in game settings

So when you change the adapter from #0 to #1 let's say...
you hit "Keep Changes" then "Save" right? If that's not saving then check your production_Config.ini in notepad \Documents\My Games\Path of Exile search for "adapter_name=" take note if that changes every time you close the .ini file and restart PoE. If it is not staying on the proper adapter in the .ini file then either back up your file by renaming it something like production_Config.ini.old or just delete it. If you delete it a lot of your in game settings will be reset when the game launches. Renaming (preferred method) or deleting the file will let you see if it's a corrupted file. If the settings are not being saved even after this then maybe you have a permission issue with your Documents folder. Make sure there aren't any restrictions in a 3rd party anti-virus. Make sure OneDrive isn't sync'ing this folder or file You can try to temporarily make another Windows user account and install the game under that and try. I'm not coming up with any other ideas atm... I'll post more if i think of something else.
Yes I hit save after changing monitors
Yes the adapter name changes: from: adapter_name=00000000-0000f085-00 to: adapter_name=00000000-0000f085-01 Don't have OneDrive installed on this comp Thank you for trying but again, for me at least, I have never had this issue until 2 days ago, after I switched from DirectX11 to Vulcan. Did not try to see if I have this issue with X12 because both X11 and X12 make my game lag when I juice maps.
Is the proper adapter name saved in the .ini file after a reboot?
If no, then obviously something in windows is changing it. Any special characters in the Windows account name? Is this a Steam install or standalone client? You could try running PoE as administrator, although this would indicate some sort of a Windows account issue or something messing with that folder/file. I use the standard client on Win 11 (dx12) with 3 monitors and I can freely move the game around with Windows shortcut keys, in the game settings, or by manually adjusting the .ini file. When I adjust the in game options or manually adjust the .ini and it saves, my PoE loads on the desired monitor after a reboot. Edit: Did you try backing up your production_Config.ini file and letting the game make a new file just to see if something in that file is corrupted? Windows 10/11 Controlled folder access is a possibility too.
I forgot about this and found it in another forum. Windows 10: 1. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. 2. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings. 3. Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access. 4. Switch the Controlled folder access setting to On or Off. 5. If you want to keep this enabled, adjust protected folders or allowed apps. Windows 11: Windows Key > Windows Security > Virus & threat Protection > Scroll down to Virus & threat protection settings > manage settings > Scroll down to Controlled folder access. For Steam: Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\PathOfExileSteam.exe For standard client same as above but wherever you've installed the client .exe files
Just restarted the comp, very interesting, I went to production_Config.ini again and saw that the adapter name is: 00000000-0000f085-01. I fired up PoE and wouldn't you know it, its on monitor 0... Last time it was modified was about 2.5 hours ago.
I am on standalone client. I do not have any special characters in my windows account name. I did not try to save a backup and delete the .ini file. I guess its worth a shot. I will also try to look into the controlled folder access but that makes no sense to me given that this issue only came up 2 days ago.
Yeah I agree. The only thing 2 days ago could have been a Windows update of some sort.. you can see this in your installed updates. Or any update that maybe happened 2 days ago I guess.
Just back up the file (rename it) so the game force creates a new one and you don't lose the old one. I sort of wish @RoOoBerT would reply back about their issue. I'm actually not sure what else I can offer... Hopefully you get it figured out. GL Edit: Long shot here, but have you tried using a different GPU driver since you changed from dx11 > Vulkan?
