i think it won't be this way, but i'd love if maps would be related to skill tree (a map is definitely needed to navigate into it!), though i don't know in which way...
maybe maps could lead to some keystone, making path shorter (giving some bonus passive points to be spent only in that path).
This way chisels could increase given points.

IMO this would be far better than random maps...

Haha, I just posted something similar in the other thread without reading your post ;)

It was intentional. I considered calling it maps.zip.png and then having a maps.zip file in the same directory with some secret content. I didn't do this, though.

*checks anyway*
Maps?
I want to know!
I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!

Whatever the maps are for, I hope they are not an addition on the technical side (Skill tree & such) but more on the adventure side such as treasure hunting or something else in that direction.
Can't wait to find out!
OK the maps are going to take us to the new end game areas. Right?

edit 19I202

Is the patch coming today? (ok kinda random post I know.)

No. The first incomplete version of the patch is expected on alpha by the end of the week. Beta release typically follows a week later.

my guess is you enter a special level under the condition of an empty bagpack, only with a map stone you found earlier.
You will find lots of goodies in there but no portal scrolls and can leave the area only after finding and applying all chisels to the map stone which opens a portal home.
if you die, all progress and items are lost.

Patch notes usually come out just a few/couple days before the patch gets deployed to beta. They like to finalize them before publishing them, and many things can change in a short time.
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.
First in the credits!
