Banning people for exploits
" lol? it's a video game man. delete the items and move on with their day is all GGG should do |
|
Just ban all accounts in possession of bugged items xd

" Sure, it's just a video game. But how can GGG expect us to follow the ToS when they don't do it themselves? What about RMT? Scamming? Cheating? Where do we draw the line here, or does "it's just a video game man" cover everything? If the general rule is: "You will not get banned", people will jump on the next exploit like crazy without risk of getting banned. Is that really the wanted environment? Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" What I think it missing here is the discussion of the punishment in relation to the damages caused--notably, to the game's trade economy. Yes, people made these unintentionally 6L items which grant extra power when used. How much of an effect did that have on other players? ...other than the people who spent hundreds of divines on the obviously bugged items. " This brings up a good topic of discussion though. How many people were exploiting this prior to the bug being made public? If people were using this for weeks without reporting it, that could definitely be a basis for a ban. |

Breach of ToS is breach of ToS. It DOES NOT matter whether your breach of ToS affected others, affected economy etc. Punishment needs to be the same for all cases.
|
|
Why punish anyone? This is a game not a criminal case.
The bug is a consequence of irresponsibility and non-optimization of the game by the GGG team. |

" lol okay, should GGG stop making games then? idc what GGG decides to do with the abusers at the end of the day, it's their game, it's up to them to keep a level playing field for anyone who spends time playing it. and it's up to players to see if it's worth their time to play a game where exploit/bugs are rampant. and it's never right to use something knowing it's an obvious oversight and transfer the blame to devs for having it in the first place. well sure, but you should understand that it's impossible as a programmer to cover all possible corner cases. the users will break their product in one way or another, and devs will come and set it right. and if its against ToS, devs have all the right to ban the end users. player agency, where?

" The ToS is also the basis for giving chat bans. They may refer players to the Code of Conduct, but that itself says to see the ToS for more information. Should GGG just get rid of chat bans entirely, and skip straight to banning accounts outright for "breach of ToS"? |
|
" More likely they will be able to find out which accounts were prolifically abusing it and selling the items and ban them. At the end of the day though, they could ban everyone for it and you don't have a leg to stand on because that's how the ToS works Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi
