Already stated that I like the field idea.


Thing is, not exactly sure why we need Symbols. The idea is neat and I love the concept, but brass tacks mechanics wise:

Assuming we go with the Field idea on OP, why would we need a Symbol that does a debuff:

If I'm melee, I'd rather the 'debuff' follow me, which is where Fields come in, which are essentually Auras against the enemy.

If I'm ranged or magic, I can already cast a curse wherever I want. If I want something in areas, I have Spell Totems.

Symbols, mechanics wise, has to bring something unique and different such taht some people will prefer to use it compared to other ideas and some people will say "that works but I'd rather use something else." The second keeps an item from being just an upgraded version of a current skill, which both makes the old skill obsolete and makes you wonder why we didn't just alter the current skill anyway.

There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.

This game really isn't for people like that.
