Most skill gems are unusable without specific gear
Sure, if you slap it on totems, it will then work. While original form of the skill cannot compete with skills which already are more comfortable out of the box, and you won't have to spend support slots to alter their core mechanics first.

Maybe I formulated poorly, when you use snipe for bleed or spell for totems, imo you already play with totems/ailments. And totems/bleed is the build, not original skill gem.

explody totems in crucible didnt exist it seems.
seismic slams didnt exist recently not so sure but the most stupid i saw would probably be ts that now you can league start it seems. or is it lightning arrow the worst offender. as for melee, well some of them have double aoe damage like boneshatter/wildstrike with inate aoe and splash on tree. but i wouldnt put bonezone in the same category, just pointing out you have double aoe. (not double dmg in all situations given the interaction of splash and the little aoe of strike skills) could compare those skills to maybe tectonic slam ? anyway, ggg like the balance that way. been that way since i started playing (ultimatum) and also before it seems. they really like the concept of bad skills and league starters for some reason. If developers are interested in attracting more players, they should at least try to provide a use for every skill they add to their game. Blissfully cool guys above all said how they made all skill work by first twisting them beyond recognition. Thus they admit that original form of skill is not worth using on its own. Totems do ideally timed channeling for the player, target for the player, absorb damage for the player before dedicated defense skills and mitigation layers, and give player time to run like a headless chicken while the damage does itself. By then, only thing left from original skill gem is its name, if you target your passives at damage type and totem modifiers, you can swap that skill without changing the build. Same goes for dots, if you add massive dot to your every hit and aim passives to scale dot, original skill becomes just a delivery vector, and you choose it based on aoe/projectile cover. Finally, even "flagship" dot builds like EA ballista or poison SRS utilizing scaling off totems/minions numbers are still capped at 35M dps by the engine, while hit/crit builds go into hundreds of million dps. Admittedly this matters little for mapping since everything will be dead in both cases, but matters a lot for delve and its infinite mob scaling. And this situation goes on for years, if GGG likes it as it is, their choice, I was merely saying why it was not ideal choice in my noob opinion. |
