Please explain to me how casual are supposed to enjoy poe?
" You're not a casual. | |
"You mean like alpine skiing were they memorize the "lane"? So when does something become a skill? Isnt everything a skill even if we were born different and some are naturally better at certain things? And normally it takes a bit of experience to be best at something.
You'd have a point if bosses and other similar mechanics are changed every once in awhile. They are not
|
|
The point is that even simple memorization is a "skill". Different people will have different levels of "skill" when playing Memory for example.

It all depends what are you playing ARPG for. I spend around 2-3h a day on PoE and am enjoing it. Am I casual? That depends. Comparing game-time I am casual. Comparing game knowledge and how much skill I have - not so casual.
I don't try to farm HH / Mageblood / Mirror. I don't hunt Uber Bosses. Because you need time and/or resources to do it. I am here for carnage, explosions and mind-bending experiments with crafting, building and mapping. My goal is to enjoy myself doing things, not being forced to do 'this' or 'that'. If I get something extra - nice! I play one, sometimes two characters per league. I skip some of them, if reward is not interesting or league mechanics is not for me. Play games to have fun / develop yourself. If you feel forced to do something, is it really fun? |

For Sanctum you need high movespeed and damage at range.
For Trial of the Ancestors you need to disrupt mobs and survive more than do damage (I have yet to try the mechanic, but that's what I hear). You CANNOT expect to do ubers as casual without a broken build you "casually" grind currency for. Any process takes time to learn. Any game and especially PoE being so vast and complex at start requires a longer learning curve. It is first a matter of attitude and adaptation, then a matter of environment. If you fail at something, do you ask the system to change or do you learn and adapt to the system? The caveat is in data, in how many people fail to pass the system/league/mechanic, that should drive change. Some people are obsessed with the Gauss bell, the curve that says and only a very few are in the top. The reality is not that, when it comes to knowledge, but in this game RNG, market abuse and knowledge dictates that. PoE is not casual friendly, by far. You don't get by too far in this game, without (- learning mechanics - how to scale defenses and damage - OR copying builds mindlessly, but to the T) - AND - how to accumulate currency based on your game mode (trade or ssf) It's always been a 2nd job if you considered this game seriously.
If you are rating you progress against no-hit Sanctum and Ubers and are failing to achieve that progress you are not a casual, you are a try-hard that is bad at the game on those terms.
I am a slow (and old) player and find Sanctum and Ubers a pain because I have never played to fully avoid hits with skill. So be it, I am not on that level and won't be. I usually play to try and get the normal bosses down, though I have trouble with Sirius. I like trying to improve my build as much as I can. I decided to go glass cannon this league. Playing Freezing Pulse/Ice Spear. I run essences and this league I decided to get better at Blight and an making decent money. T16s are fine if I avoid some mods. Things I still want to do: Sirius (shakes fist) Maven + maybe some fancy Mavens, I have done some of these in the past. Get past 100M reasonable PoB damage as that is point of the glass cannon option. I have already had the pleasure of seeing the first Eater + Exarch melt in seconds. 2 points short of 115. I have maybe 6 acheivable chase items plus refinement and levelling to improve the build. So I have a fun if squishy build, have done some stuff and still have plenty to do.
you guys are wasting time arguing. take a peek at his pob and you'll see the worst build that's ever made in the history of path of exile.

" "Skill" (noun) 1 a : the ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance b : dexterity or coordination especially in the execution of learned physical tasks 2 : a learned power of doing something competently : a developed aptitude or ability Tell me again how PoE is "not about skill". Sure, it's not JUST about reaction times, but as even my cat knows, "skill" is way more than just reactions. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" You are not wrong, poe is not a casual oriented game. And heavily punish playing the "wrong" build.. Its more or less a time sink for people who enjoy spending their time playing poe. For casual its mostly get the league challenge MTX, or try out some new build.. which doesn't take that long depending how deep into end game/efficient you are. Sadly with little time you are basically forced into playing a very strong build. |
