computer, game, lag, 3d troubleshooting resources / crashing- research /work in progress
I've updated to all of the latest drivers and all of the new windows updates (I haven't really been updating them since I keep automatic windows updates off, but yay for I.E. 10! :P). I tried looking for Rocketfish drivers, but the product is discontinued and I can't find any new ones. So far I haven't had any issues since using the --softwareaudio command. I'm not sure however if the rocketfish card will use Creative Labs drivers if I were to download them, even though they are for the most part identical.

try finding who made the audio chipset and see if the drivers work from there, in this case creative labs or some off shoot like c-media.
try switching pci ports. |
|
Well so far it's been almost 2 hours and no problems (knock on wood!). I think the --softwareaudio may have fixed it

post the tip in a bit more detail in your original post (edit it) so others can reference. nice!

a full install of radeon drivers can be tricky sometimes they do not really upgrade. for updating to 13.3x or whatever in the future
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/amd_catalyst_13_3_beta_2_download.html a. control panel > system > device manager > right click the amd/radeon display adapter > uninstall > check the box to delete the driver b. control panel add/remove or programs/features > remove amd/radeon products c. if windows auto installs the video driver, uninstall it again following step A d. install the drivers like 13.3 beta > reboot e. reboot > did they install? if not install them again f. make sure the amd radeon display panel has version 13.3 or your correct version listed under software radeon panel > information > software should list 13.3 or your version installing NOTE: some users report this resolving their fps/freeze issues, for me it helps but i still have to run the client.exe in high priority mode and its still only 75% effective. UPDATE: o. crashing shader files map files etc: clear the shader cache folder while exited out of the game: C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\ShaderCache Last edited by jerger#3410 on Apr 21, 2013, 10:41:24 PM

collection of used ports: (please note opening ports reduces security on those ports!)

" This information needs to have a caveat. Defragging is ONLY valid if you are running off a traditional mechanical hard drive. If you are running off a SSD drive, defragging will: a) show ZERO difference due to the fact that SSDs have zero seek time, and b) only wear out your SSD faster since every write gradually reduces the lifespan Good guide though! |
|
The average user that will use my guide probably doesn't have an SSD drive. Defragging an SSD drive doesn't hurt it. I have written articles on SSD drives before, the primary focus is to save the life of your SSD drive rather than improve performance.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 make defragging less of a necessity due to defragging that performs in the background for you, regardless if it is an SSD or traditional drive. If your drive is having performance issues, most likely you need to run a scan disk and disk defrag, and SMART health check to check for errors. If you have an SSD drive you are going to have performance issues due to the technology rather than the traditional reasons for hard drive failures. |

goal tonight:
a. help test various fixes to make radeon game play 100% better instead of 50-90% -still lag slightly in large groups with summons/spells b. I will document which settings help production_config.ini Last edited by jerger#3410 on Apr 23, 2013, 6:37:29 PM

latest test seems good 90% of the time, when it hangs up it freezes 1 second or less when more than 10 monsters load or mass magic/spells/summons. similar to when running in high priority mode.
my slower pc is slightly less laggy which makes me wonder if it is driver related. the radeon 6850 pc with amd quad core runs slightly faster than 7850 radeon card with intel quad core (almost 25% faster pc). https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B131pNRWYR_XaEZJdGJYT1RKZW8/edit?usp=sharing I took a screenshot of in game dumb downed settings. this is not a fix but to help make gameplay possible. vsync: try off, then try on (for me i need it on since i get nausea) shadow type: no shadows antialiasing = off texure quality = modeium texture filtering = trilinear or lowest setting post processing = set to off screenshake=off I had thought screenshake was off but it was not, this seemed to help quiet a bit. A few weeks ago I do not recall these issues. I am using the 13.3 beta drivers. |
