This game and poe2 will NEVER EVER hit a million players period.

GGG seems to be under the impression if they dumb down the game to diablo 4 blizzard levels of IQ or reset the economy and league mechanics back to 0 they are going to pull a million players with poe 2. This was their chance ! diablo 4 was out it sucked players wanted more ! Exilecon gave GGG a chance to show their hand, here we are new league ! Guess what ? Its got even shittier player count than crucible.

Let me tell you, poe2 will never hit or sustain a million players, it has 10 years 12 by the time poe2 is out of being KNOWN and RECOGNIZED as a hardcore ARPG requiring a lot of thought, planning and grinding. It is known for its passive tree, its build interactions and item interactions.

So GGG wants to hit a million players, there is literally only 1 way they do this, they will have to turn POE2 into some arcade junk town hack and slasher with seasons and battlepass ! just like d4 and even they are struggling to hold onto their base. Thats the game you make if you despise your players and want to bump up your share price, is this GGG now ?

The fact is the vast majority of people do NOT want to do algebra when they play a game, they want a few archtypes and some subclasses and mild customization. It feels like GGG is going to kill both their birds with 1 stone, they want to kill poe1 to push people into poe2 but they still dont see that there will never be a million players in poe. this name PATH OF EXILE. all but guarantees that the game is relegated to the hardcore ARPG gamers no matter the game number or version.

So can you guys stop trying to push POE1 into a direction that never worked in the first place, it didnt work 10yrs ago and it wont work with poe2. You made an excellent hair trigger ARPG with amazing interactions and depth of the abyss.

Embrace what you made, what got you to where you are. Its so weird this company hates its own game.

Oh it will. They will reach the number off of advertising and sponsorships. Why do you think Blizzard/EA games sell so well? Because they're fun, game of the year candidates that put consumers first? LOL. It's because they pay KFC 10 million dollars to slap their game's logo on the side of a 18 pc bucket of fried chicken.

Game quality is only loosely correlated with how many people try a game on first day / first season.

Steam charts are only part of the number.

They really don't need to hit a million players, they are doing just fine with what they have.

And to say they have dumbed down mechanics is deluded, they have changed them. wooo.

The direction they have been pushing from launch is to a faster game, i'm glad you realize that it isn't the direction they should go and should be reverting back to a more slow pace

You and i have very different ideas over what this game is, POE is and always will be the zoomer ARPG with a million projectiles, overlapping mechanics that require a thesis, hair trigger reaction times and i love it, this is the game i want, 3.15 harvest with current atlas is my ideal POE.

The direction from launch indeed HAS been towards a faster game, but retaining the same complexity, If you think they are going to get a million players going back to gameplay that they had 20k players with i got a bridge to sell you.

Chris did an interview with Josh Strife Hayes and talked about the game and its development. Chris said they only need 10-20k players to make money and give everyone working there a good wage.

Thats GREAT ! so then why do they care about pushing poe2 to get a million players, this is what chris wants as stated during exilecon. If they only cared about 10-20k players then just make the game thats been growing the numbers and PAYING those same employees this entire time, why change ?

It seems to me they explained a fair amount of the reasoning why they're doing particular things in the last set of talks at their convention. Which changes, specifically, are you confused about?

And I mean, please remember this is people's art we're talking about; their creative work. There doesn't need to be some grand reason for not doing the same thing forever; if they just didn't want to, that would be enough.
PoE is a good game, but I still like Diablo II more. For the following reasons:

- the game overcomplicated beyond measure, skill tree with hundreds of nodes, numerious remnants of previous leagues in maps and especially crafting, convoluted atlas and so on. At the moment you need to spend 100 hours just to figure the basis of everything in the game. Crafting more or less is useless, it is much cheaper to buy 6 link than craft it myself.

- endgame is locked behind trading, trading in game is pain in the butt. To finish the atlas, you need trade maps and gear. I don't trade because I don't want constant requests while mapping (and who does?), so I usually run yellow maps and finish.

- the game is not about loot, it is about junk. I find junk, trade it to vendors, get low currency and buy loot. During all my time in PoE I found ONE good item. That's it. Playing Diblo II Resurected for several month I've got enigma, windforce, arachnid mesh, and bunch of powerfull runewords. You play Diablo II and actually find items, not buy them.

-Constant nerfs of everything every several month. I often can't even get to 90+ level before my char got nerfed, and nerfed bad.
hoho you telling me I'll never see a million players in town or ingame? Damn that sucks.
