3.21.2c Patch Notes

Trial of the Ancestors will feature a new league mechanic where you create a team to enter gladiator-style battles in a tournament setting. Like most PoE leagues, a plethora of new content will also launch with the new league.

Well, no point at all in trying this league out now is there. The graphics problems persist and are exacerbated when I join another person's hideout OR when they join mine.

As a developer with no knowledge of POE's internals I'm starting to believe that POE is also loading all assets from someone else's hideout when they join mine. Why else would my load times be increased 2-3x when loading MY OWN HO with someone else in it.

somebody joined my hideout last night and i dropped to under 30-40 fps
It is funny that this game taxes my CPU harder than Cyberpunk 2077 does, at least Cyberpunk 2077 is not stuttering...
PC servers are restarting in: 00:06:59
.
They should be back up in approximately 3 hours and 0 minutes.

GET READY FOR... NOTHING!
Crucible is my first league since 2018 due to regional availability. I am excited about the upcoming one.
I hope GGG do rollback the game before 24 july

Made some small engine improvements. Further improvements will be made in 3.22.0.

So what exactly are those engine improvements you are making with 3.22.0?

I checked patch notes and there is literally 0 related info. Doesn't seem there are any improvements beyond what was done in 3.21.2c.
Stupid PoE2 Particle System Patch...

New mute system is another hot garbage.

Added a bug report: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3408867
but ill add it here too just in case.

Laptop with:
- Intel core i7 6700HQ 2.60GHz
- RAM 16GB Dual-channel DDR4 1064MHz
- 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, (also has Intel HD Graphics 530, this is not used for poe)
- 500GB SSD
- Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I have tried all recommended solutions:
- Pack check
- Updating windows
- Updating GPU drivers using GeForce Experience
- Full fresh reinstall of the game
- Deleting config file.
- Checked Im within minimum requirements, which i am. Heck GPU is better than minimum when compared to requirements from https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3072628
- GPU comparison: https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-GTX-650-Ti-vs-GeForce-GTX-960M
- Tested various combinations of graphical settings:
____- Everything on low
____- Dx11, Vulkan, Dx12(this gives the best performance, but has occasional spikes to 100% GPU out of nowhere, so something is making it Unstable)
____- Capped fore and back ground fps to 30
____- Windowed mode with 1280x720
____- and more, and etc, and fiddling continues endlessly

Problem Description:
Prior to the first of the series of patches leading up to 3.21.2b, I had managed to fiddle the game settings low enough to where by gpu was running at a stable 34% usage on the GPU, with the expected spikes during combat.

After patch, the GPU usage is unstable, and significantly increased. Average usage is 50% on the GPU, with spikes going to 95% when using a single skill in the wrong spot in hideout. (See Test Below)

Additionally the CPU spikes to 80-100% when loading areas, which ill asume is a different problem all together. Switching to dx11/vulkan/dx12 has some effect on this loading

POE Particle/lighting Performance Test:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFPkdf6oFf4

Conclusion: Game is in an unplayable state on a machine that is above minimum requirements, with a build that speficially is optimised for low end, and while using lower resolution than recommended for minimum specs. This is due to the exessive strain put on the GPU.

The Poe2 lighting/particle effects appear to be the main culprite, as the more of any effect on screen is displayed the exponentially worse the GPU's performance becomes as seen in test above.

This issue cannot be resolved from the player side.

P.S.
Came back to poe after quitting the game in 2020, about 1 week before this shitshow, fiddled the pc to work, got back into buildplanning, and made it to level 7 the sunday before the first patch. FeelsBadMan.

Ill asume heist league was the first time poe2 particle shitstem was introduced, as the current problem is pretty much the same issue that made me quit back in 2020. Had a good 3 weeks of fun back then on self cast desecrate+ detonate dead before heist league, and then after the desecrate effect got changed, the skill became unusage due to its new terrible performance(which seems to never have been fixed btw).

I optimistically wish you the best of luck fixing this, which you will surely need, given Exilecon showed the poe backend being a hardcoded spaghetti ball, and Visual effects guy from day 2 (https://youtu.be/XE3MAFGDzWw?t=3633) explaining how the more cascades he does the cheaper they get, which sounds cool and is probably true, but when put to practise clearlymakes the GPU shit the bed.

Lastly, coming back made me consider getting some of the new specialised stashtabs... but why bother when the game doesnt work.

It's always intriguing when folks highlight performance issues while working with significantly outdated PCs.

I see numerous compatibility challenges just between your PC and Windows alone, let alone a game demanding at least 20GB of disk space.

Considering your CPU is a 6th gen, which was released in 2015 and saw its support end in 2022, paired with your use of Windows 10, compatibility issues stemming from outdated drivers are a likely culprit.
Windows 10 has been rolling out numerous patches, but they're not exactly catering to an i7 6700HQ CPU anymore.

Additionally, I noticed you're utilizing DDR4 1064 MHz with just 4GB RAM. Intel's documentation mentions that the lowest supported RAM for your CPU is DDR3 1600 MHz. It makes me wonder, can you even power on your PC?

While Windows 10's minimal RAM requirement is 2GB (with 4GB recommended), my personal experience suggests that a system with only 4GB RAM is best suited for basic tasks like web browsing. Attempting to run a 20GB game under such conditions?
And with RAM speeds at 1064 MHz, your CPU might already be under strain just handling Windows, let alone adding Path of Exile to the mix.

Sadly this update does not fix the problem with Engine Multithreading. I still get stutters on my CPU (i7-4790k). Hopefully the 3.22 patch will fix this. If not GGG needs to revert and figure out the problem in their multithreading code.

That i7-4790k relic? Support for it waved goodbye in 2017.
And fun fact: It doesn't even cozy up well with Win10. 🙄

Now, putting on my realistic cap here, if we peek from a DEV's viewpoint, these hiccups aren't automagically disappearing anytime soon. When coding, devs target a specific platform or architecture. And let's face it, the Win 7 train has left the station.
If you're somehow pushing Win10 on that ancient beast, it's a no-brainer that you'd hit performance roadblocks. Trying to optimize both for Windows 7 and Windows 10 in one go? That's like expecting a VHS to play in a Blu-ray player. Not gonna happen.

From a financial standpoint, investing in a budget-friendly, modern PC is going to be a lot cheaper than pouring thousands into a developer team to achieve the near-impossible. That's like trying to squeeze juice from a stone. Better to just upgrade and save yourself the headache.
