Why isnt there any Samurai cosmetics?
|
Samurai is using melee. Only 10% of the players are playing melee. That’s why.

" I see...... but they also use bows... |
|
" Like any other martial caste, they used bows, because getting close to things you want to kill is dumb. The myth of the samurai using swords happened when only the upper caste were allowed to own swords. The reality is, guns came to Japan, and the samurai were like "These are sweet" Actually now that I think of it, it perfectly fits in PoE, since if you were good with a sword you were made fun of, since that meant you were bad with a bow. " Says someone who knows nothing about samurai. The swords themselve are more or less symbols of how far they where willing to go in war, not their 'alway used' weapon of choice. The sword was the sidearm, the thing they could always have, and thus always serve their role, and that they had the training and (in theroy) the bravery to resort to close quarter melee combat instead of fleeing. But given any choice in the matter, the Yumi was the weapon of choice to any trained soldier in the era, and firearms where used. I actually struggled to find actual historical samurai art double checking my facts that depicted Samarui holding their swords instead of their bows. The core of Samurai tactics during basically every era they where a military force, and not a social caste, they where designed to be horse archers in their ideal roles (in part horses gave them speed, which kept them alive and preserved their political positions, training costs, and military learning). |

*cries in $4k US and not one but 3 katana skins added to the game*
Best answer was the second post. Fucking killed it: Tencent don't own "part of GGG"; they own 85%. That's what people in the biz call "a controlling stake". Lol. Chinese folks reaaaaaaally don't like Japanese history. Source: I am a half-Chinese weeb and my dad *fucking hates this fact*. He loves to bring up the N word whenever I even mention anime (IYKYK). So yeah, I can see why PoE doesn't have much in the way of samurai-inspired armour. Also it just doesn't fit the world as built. Maraketh is more a fusion of anything from...well...Marakesh to Japan, with its curved swords, hooked swords and for some silly reason sai. Just a lazy mishmash really. But PoE does have me (like literally my username) -- not just a katana but a fucking talking fiery one (That Time I Paid A Lot Of Money To Design A Sword) . And a few other katana. Kikuchiichimonji from memory. Hiltless is kinda there. I almost made a naginata at one point. I always loved how the "war staff" design for D1 was in fact just a naginata and no one in their right mind used it as one. PS Bushido was a hoax created by an expat and ruthlessly exploited for ages. And ninja weren't really a thing. Samurai typically had no more inherent honour than their Western feudal counterparts. Oda Nobunaga looooved his rifles. And homosexuality was perfectly acceptable in Japan until Perry came along. Conversely, Christians were routinely tortured and killed -- see Shimabara for a nice easy example. I may be a weeb but sooner or later you realise, as the great philosopher Carlin said, it's all bullshit folks and it's bad for you. :) The name says it all. I just want a fridge as my totem.
|
|
" Make it a Mitsubishi-brand fridge and both you and the OP get what you want! :)
Spoiler
https://www.mitsubishi.com/en/profile/group/mark/ -- basically, Mitsubishi's symbol is derived from the old Tosa clan crest and Iwasaki family crest during the early Meiji period. End of the samurai clan, but beginning of their rebranding, the industrial zaibatsu.

" Japanese would pride themselves in making reliable appliances though, not volatile ones. |

" I mean hasn't the shipped sailed on this type of logic due to mtx themes? From mystic-cat soulrend, to cyclone sharknado, to the not so subtle insane, neon, terror inducing, circus clown mtx. We jumped the shark on Wraeclast environments long ago. I see no reasons ninja, samurai, bushido, etc... type themes couldn't be pursued. Maybe you are just talking base items though? Which sure... I guess? I don't see how a bird cage on your head (that generates ES), is any more applicable than a traditional eastern style Nioh-type armor set. Meh again, GGG sold out on preserving the Wraeclast environments long ago so who knows what we will see next due to the almighty dollar reigning supreme. " AH, MTXES...Okay. For some reason I was thinking straight-up in-game gear. Nah fuck it, mtxes they can go fuck Gundam for all I care. And not just any Gundam either. SD Gundam Wing. Huge heads and spikey shit everywhere. But for armour-armour? Two issues. One, what I mentioned about the Traditional Owners of The Game vs The Actual Owners (did you figure out the N word?); and two, a lot of samurai armour takes horseback riding into account, and GGG pride themselves on the lack of that being why 'there are no pants in Ba Sing Se'. Bonus third reason: all those lacquered layers would be a bitch to model and then fit to all seven body types (soon...14?). Fun fact though: I mentioned the War Staff in Diablo 1 having a naginata as its 2d art (3d art wasn't really a thing then); as I recall, another unique piece of gear had a full-on kabuto...lets see. Here we go: https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Overlord%27s_Helm yknow, looking at this 2d art I really wouldn't say no to a D1 remaster/remake that actually uses all of it as models.
