widescreen resolution removed from the game.

Thank you to all the black bar crew for your fallacious arguments, non-sequitors, and ad hominem that helps keep this important matter at the top of the forum.

Mindlessly regurgitating a GGG statement (that happens to be illogical, indefensible, and objectively wrong with the regard to defending the inclusion of black bars in particular) is not an argument.

There is zero rational argument or defense for the inclusion of black bars in this game, and I think the black bar crew knows it since they aren't even attempting to make any coherent arguments.

32:9 worked fine for 10 years. For any potential problems with 32:9 in this noncompetitive PvE game, black bars are neither a defensible, reasonable, or acceptable solution. Acceptable alternatives should be implemented if needed.

1 year, 278 days. Black bars need to go. Fix it, GGG.

It seems even you consider it competitive.

Two years completely ignoring reality...

Also, unless I'm very much mistaken 32:9 did not even EXIST 10 years ago, much less become a "supported" resolution.

Black bar crew....I've never seen black bars in my game. And if I did and it bothered me so much that I would make 600+ posts about it, I would have either moved on or gotten a different monitor, maybe, 500 posts ago at the most?

Zero rational argument....there ISN'T an argument. This isn't a debate. This is GGG's product and they decided it had to go. The only irrational side is this thread. GGG could CLOSE the game servers tomorrow and you know how much "rational argument" you could lobby against it? None.

You seem to be under the false impression that we have to convince you of not wanting UW support.

The only reason this thread stays on page one and distracts from actually more important topics is because you make the same demand in perpetuity. It won't matter if you make that demand for 1 day or 1000 days, GGGs stance is clear and nothing more needs to be said

According to Tom's Hardware the first ever 21:9 PC monitor was released end of 2012.

The monitor clocked in at 600€ retail price. You'd pay around 800-1000€ for a good 5120x1440 capable one these days. It is safe to say that these are a luxury item and only a subset of people who use them also play games, and then even fewer of those who play games on an ultrawide monitor play PoE.

So it turns out that one person is tackle.
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Yes I saw that, and likely it was a rare product for at least a year after the first one came out. But that was 21:9.....He was talking 32:9 which was way later than that. Granted, they are basically the same effect but specifics matter!

Previously it was possible to manually set the aspect ratio of the Path of Exile client to be very short and wide, allowing you to see an unintended amount of the level at once. A limit needed to be set. Because of server serialisation distances, this maximum aspect ratio is currently set to 21:9. This is the widest that we can currently go before we start hitting the cutoff where entities and effects vanish. We are looking at being able to increase this in the future.

Black bar crew - make a real argument if you want a response. Here's a reminder of what you should be thinking about [Removed by Support]

If you want to argue that black bars are a defensible, logical inclusion in this game, the basic argument that needs refutation is as follows:

I don't feel like repeating myself for the millionth time as to the substance here for why black bars are an objectively bad design choice with zero rational defense. You can read the thread if you want. the TL;DR is:
  • This is a non-competitive PvE game
  • It's OK to remove ultrawide support for competitive modes e.g. PVP/prize races, but this does not necessitate removal for the base game
  • There are many allowed hardware and software advantages, many of which arguably impact the game much more than 32:9 gameplay; selectively removing one is nothing but arbitrary
  • Ultrawide users can work around this anyway, so this doesn't actually solve any problems from "bad actors" or people intent on exploits. Only regular players following TOS are affected.
  • If there are problems with ultrawide resolutions, black bars are not an acceptable solution. Multiple acceptable alternatives throughout this thread have been presented - fog of war, AI adjustments, variable FOV, bug fixes, etc.

For black bars to be OK and for this thread to go away, two things must both be true - first, the advantage given by 32:9 is a problem and needs to be removed and second, black bars are the appropriate way to do this.
