Cortex boss. Is this avoidable? What did I do wrong here?
Why stay in melee range if you can't tank the slam?

"Yeah, he was one flame dash away from melee range. For this fight, usually I stay on the edge of the arena. Last edited by 6_din_49#4066 on Mar 26, 2022, 5:04:57 PM

I've successfully outran the blobs on my speedier characters. Using a movement skill after the teleport has been met with mixed success though.

When you see the blobs just let them get you then port sidewards or behind, hes basically teleporting you infront of a slam and you get about 0.5 to move out of it - this is pretty easy with flame dash as long as you've not wasted a charge early so my advice is don't try to be clever.
You can outrun the blobs til they expire but honestly its better to just handle the mechanic as intended Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Mar 27, 2022, 8:04:45 AM

" Ironically, "run away from the slam" is kinda the straight-forward strategy that is most likely to be employed if one goes into the fight blind. A strategy that's pretty much designed to kill you. Which is why I think it's a terrible boss mechanic. Allowing yourself to be teleported under the slam and then using your dash ability to escape at the last second seems very unintuitive and much more like "trying to be clever". It's also the best strategy. Go figure. Just one of very many questionable boss fight mechanics in this game. - here's my sig

I actually like it as a mechanic but I agree you are conditioned to behave incorrectly, Catarona actually has the same mechanic pretty much the skin is different but the premise is the same (delayed action then dodge).
What mechanics like this need is a warmup version to teach the player, that significantly lowers the difficulty but personally I really like a well designed series of boss skills with a "tutorial". Sirus does this to a degree but the irony is he gets all his deadly attacks at the end lmao they just tease you with his "fake" real attacks. Cortex guys actually one of their better ones when you compare it to like Oshabi Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Mar 28, 2022, 2:19:43 PM
