You need to position yourself with a small gap between you and your target and this ensures that both the lightning projectiles and melee part of the skill all connect with the target.

are you sure about this? I was asking around in the discord poe channel and they were saying either the melee or ranged portion hit, not both.

If they wont fix it in 3.16 you can hit Mobs twice.
If you position a little farther away but still in kinda Melee Range you see 2 Lightning Beams coming from the Sky. This indicates that your Melee and Projectile hit the Target.

That is the indication that your strike is hitting the monster twice.
This is achieved either from ancestral call or gloves +1
Oh, thats a weird interaction, normally ancestral call doesn't make you hit a single target multiple times. Is it because the melee and ranged portions are different, so ancestral call lets you hit twice? You always get the 1 lighting strike whether or not you hit anything (even if outside melee range), so are we 100% sure it's actually hitting twice? PoE desperately needs a target dummy.

would having increased melee strike range make that sweet spot harder/easier to hit? or just not affect it.

What about taking 1 node - chance to posion 15%, and take on claw masteries no crit from monsters when they are poisoned?

And Mastery- +3 to crit gems? It works with nightblade or its not?

i saw many people using multistrike, is this a good idea?
It has nothing to do with the ranged portion. This is why +1 strikes or ancestral call is so important on the build, is the entirety of the skill hits twice at the correct range. This is not possible without +1 strike or ancestral call

Multistrike is fine for base lightning strike, but does absolutely nothing when using the vaal skill.

+3 levels in nightblade does very little. Look at gem info, the breakpoint after 21 then 26 for crit strike chance. Multiplier would go up by 3% which is a waste of a node.

The 3 levels in real pretty good. It gives +6% crit multi and +6% elusive effect
Critical multi from nightblade scales with elusive(check on wiki) and pob unfortunately doesn't count it(it is also why you need withering step - it resets bonus). So, in total it is like 16% crit multi, 1% avoidance, 1% ms. Not very bad for 1 skill point
p.s. nightblade still old on wiki, check on poedb https://poedb.tw/us/Nightblade_Support

Thank you, much appreciated!
I prefer ARC one, but that's me :)

You can take Rampart and fortify mastery for 6 points and free up your vigilant strike slots. Not to mention you don't have to press it every 8 seconds.

Yes for quality of life you can do that. I won't as I am used to the vigilant strike playstyle, however this might change if it gives poor fortify stacks
