Maybe it's somewhat official to people without a brain/common sense. Moderators simply moderate forum behavior. Aside from keeping people civil and in line with official forum rules, they have zero knowledge/authority/weight as a GGG crew member.

Now a DEV trolling I would agree with that statement on. Devs are expected to make factual statements about the game they are developing.

As a forum mod you do not troll. period.

Mods of course shouldn't troll because if nothing else they're assumed to be more knowledgable and come from a position of trust. It reflects poorly on GGG.

If a mod really wants to troll then they should just use a different account.

Exactly. Even GGG have made jokes on these forums. Having a sense of humor is a good thing, and it's sad that people automatically scream TROLL!!!! just because someone makes a light-hearted joke.

I actually think it's something more PR-related (think PAX Sivir, PAX Sona, etc.).
Hand out microtransaction cards at big events, and people can redeem them on the site.
Nothing has been said about it at all, so we'll just have to wait and see what's coming.
