Is it worth identifying items?
Hi,
I remember that in D2, it was generally worth identifying items (I mean even before you had access to Deckard Cain). Because you could sell it for a price higher than what a Scroll of ID costed. Also, the price of an item always changed (usually to a higher one) after the identification. But I wonder - how does this mechanics work in PeE? Does the price of an item change after the identification? I don't have access to the game so I can't test it myself, but I'm just curious...
Early on, I think it's really only worth identifying stuff you'll use. I believe that selling Unidentified items to the vendor will give you Transmutation shards (20 of which form a Transmutation Orb, which allows you to upgrade one white item to blue), whereas selling Identified items gives you alteration shards, 20 of which form an Alteration Orb, which allows you to re-roll a blue item.
I think. I always get these things confused because I do them so quickly. Bottom line is, at first, wisdom scrolls are too scarce to burn on every blue item you find, but before long you'll be swimming in the damn things. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Especially early on, it's worth developing the habit of picking up flasks, belts, jewelry items, and, if the space allows, four-space items like boots, gloves, helms... Even the white ones. Those little items add up in your inventory, and can net you some fast accumulation of ID scrolls.
I always ID things which I might us, especially if they have good sockets. You can always use an Alteration Orb to make a so-so blue item more useful, even if you've rolled it from a white with a Transmutation Orb. Otherwise, leave white vendor trash lie, and focus on blues and useful whites (and, of course, Rare yellows). Also, review and learn what you can get for certain types and combos of items: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/15223 It may complicate your scavenging, but you can get more value if you know what the vendors are willing to give for certain things. =^[.]^= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

If you are short of ID scrolls, selling whetstones and whatever the armor increasing orbs are gets you some quick ID scrolls.
One is worth 4x, the other 2x In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

I pick up and ID everything, selling my alterations for more scrolls, generally.
But I'm only level 24, so I'm probably wrong. :P itsalljustagame.wordpress.com - my blog about all things gaming - Current project - "Communal effort" - Game design by popular vote!

" With regard to those... Whetstones/Armor Scraps have less effect on magic and even less on rares, so use 'em on white items you want to enhance, when possible. Those should be the first step in crafting a nice item for yourself. If you find a white item with good sockets (especially before you have access to Chromatic and Jeweler's Orbs), use one or the other quality improver first, then an Orb of Transmutation to make it magic. If that doesn't get you a good set of powers, use an Orb of Alteration to change them. If you get only one good power, then you can use an Orb of Augmentation (which adds a random power if a blue item has only one). =^[.]^= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

Depends on which orbs you need the most really. You shouldn't be keeping yourself from identifying stuff because of the ID scrolls themselves, they're very common and easy to get. Run the Terraces once and you can get a bunch of scrolls right there.

really depends, if you want Alch/Regal orbs from Recipes, (keep your yellows), and make sure to ID them
If you want Chaos, can just leave them UnID, but I always ID yellow because generally I have a over abundance of weapons etc, and its easy to make Regals. Where getting extra Yellow rings and amulets is tough.
Everything fell into place with the backward system this game has.
In early game, we need to collect white items to exchange for wisdom scroll, leaving all those nice colored item behind and forcing us to either use a teleport scroll or save it for later use. Collecting 10 or 20 crap and turning into a decent crap is not very rewarding. Its like making Fed Ex runners and turn them into sweat shop farmers and later sweat shop shop farmers turning into mindless butchers with jogging shoes. On the other hand I'm surprise so much people willing to paid for this game to get into the beta. After playing Age of Empire Online due to the long donation delay prio to the weekend beta, i realized POE lack sso many features and its so backward too that playing the game after getting my key depressed me because it lack one key ingredient and that's a motive to contiue playing while it lack a striving trading, crafting system but worst of all everyone looks the same. A big thank you to Gari11 for the beta key! <3 on 4/13/2012 My video review and build if anyone interestd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbgrcYkpPdw Last edited by jsnazz on May 4, 2012, 11:31:16 PM
