Linux Ubuntu PoE installation and configuration tutorial, runs smooth

Anyone try this out recently? Been thinking about giving this a go...don't want to get a bunch of cruft on my system though ;) Also, how are updates handled when running this on Linux? Thanks.
Last time I played was 3.14 and I'm looking forward to 3.16. I Use the steam experimental proton from december 2020. And I got no lag no shader lag and get average 100fps with a gtx 1660. I use kernel 5.11.0-38 low latency no vsync since I regularly hit 144fps. I have to say it's been a pretty good experience to me. DXVK Version 1.8.1L with Esync enabled.

Edit: I use the native installer with Lutris not in steam. But use the steam experimental as the wine install.

Updates work just normally. Either Steam updates the game, if you use the steam client, or the PoE Launcher does the update. Nothing special here.

I'm about to redo my PoE Linux install. Its old and needs a complete refresh. I'm playing Last Epoch under Steam with Proton and it works very well, so I'm thinking about doing the same for PoE.

However, I've never linked my PoE/Steam Accounts as there always seemed to be issues doing so or updates being incredibly slow/late.

My questions are, how are Steam/PoE these days? Is Steam/Proton the best path (seems to be the most straight forward) or is it better to stick with stand alone/Lutris etc.

Edit: Decided to go the same way as LE. Proton Experimental/Steam. Works as well as Windows.
