[3.13]🏹 Poison Barrage-VF / Scourge Arrow / TR PF | Bottled Fortify | The Tankiest Ranger + High DPS

Hey Wolfie, i'm still leveling with CA/Barrage (lvl 63 & doing well!), so i don't have any SA questions yet. I just wanted to pop in and give you some props for being so active in here, answering questions and sharing discoveries. As someone who hasn't played SA before it's been a big help in planning my build progression!

I've started Harvest league with this build but I seem to have some issues across the board.
I think I've seen a lot of different PoB on passives and skills as well and started mixing up stuff.
Currently, I feel like I'm lacking both damage and tankiness to move up in maps with my max difficulty feeling around 6-7.

Any chance you could provide some help/tips?

I'm also not that experienced so I would greatly appreciate additional comments on reasoning behind certain choices as I'm keen to learn more about the game :)

not sure how i feel about the build dmg, seems like it needs some serious investment to perform well in single target

was expecting more damage with a 20ex investment, looking @ faraazahmed pob

also, I see 3.1m boss dps but with frenzy charges, how are those generated ?

or maybe my damage expectations are a bit off, and 3m is still a reasonable number

This is my PoB from 3.10 where I played this build to lvl 97. (https://pastebin.com/8qeuUxMJ) 6.37 million dps on Sirus without frenzy charges. On Uber Elder where you have frenzy charges up for half the fight, it's 7.6 million single target DPS. That's with 80% phys dmg taken as X conversion, max dodge & 64% evade chance.

Idk what builds you play that are able to achieve 20 million dps on a 10 ex budget (or whatever you consider good DPS) while still having this kind of tankiness, but I consider these stats pretty good.

Now coming to my 3.11 character:

0) I'm not running Malevolence! It is the single biggest DPS aura we have, and I can't run it because my Enlighten gem is still only lvl 2. I'm also missing my endgame amulet which is currently 17 ex. If I add Malevolence to the build, with under leveled supports and no frenzy charges, I have 3.8 million Sirus DPS. If I max my supports, with Malevolence, I have 4.5 million DPS WITHOUT frenzy charges.

1) My supports are not max leveled. If I keep all config same, and bump up my supports to max level, I have 3.9 million Sirus dps. Take off frenzy charges if you want, that's 3.3 million DPS.

2) I have 3 dead mods on my bow. Proj Speed reduces our damage, bleed is useless for us, stun duration is garbage.

3) If I copy paste my bow & quiver from 3.10 onto my 3.11 char with max supports, I have 3.95 million Sirus dps without frenzy charges, 4.7 million with frenzy charges.

4) Today is day 6 of a new league. I don't claim to be great at the game, but with all modesty, achieving this level of power in that time (I have a wife & 2 kids btw) I felt was something great. I still haven't done any harvest crafting apart from cluster jewels.

5) I spent 20 ex because I crafted all my gear myself with fossil spam. If I bought it outright, would have probably been cheaper. I did not have currency to buy it however because you know...LEAGUE START.

6) There is no formula in this game that "I spent 20 ex, so I must have X million DPS". It depends on build to build. This build has proliferating poisons for the clear speed, super tanky with all the phys dmg reduction, dmg avoidance etc & abusing flasks for DPS & survivability.

To cut a long story short, you are judging a build based on gear of a character on the 6th day of a league, under leveled gems, no enlighten, no endgame uniques and shitty crafted items.

Btw, your current gears are far from the end-game setup even without cluster jewel. If I can see where you struggle (a short video clip would do the trick), I and others may be able to give better suggestion.

Thanks for the reply Wolfie! I made 2 adjustments to my setup (bought 2 awakened gems for cheap) and analysed the clip of faraaz to see what I was doing wrong.

First mistake: I didn't check for the map mod #% chance to avoid ailments - no wonder why some maps were insanly hard.

Second mistake: I had some gaps between my blast rain casts and therefore my withered stacks dropped.

After focusing more on my blast rain and more on always trying to shoot at stage 5 the single target really improved. I also think that I was standing too far away sometimes, so maybe thats also a factor.

I played this last league and no offense you're nowhere close to end game. Circle ring for herald, auls and elder Jewel with malevolence, helm pod enchant and 140 ailment focus craft, chaos damage on belt, quiver chaos dot and extra arrow and if you're Wolfie poison damage too, and yes the clusters are massive damage boosts. Maxed gems and awakened gems also provide a massive boost.

I also don't see hardened scars anointed on your ammy that is the whole build survival mechanism.

No offense, but I know I'm nowhere near close endgame. I'm able to compare the endgame PoB with my own and see a major difference. I asked how to progress further not what I was lacking.

I had a blast playing with this build in 3.10 cruising thru all end-game challenges. However, to be able to replicate what I did in 3.10 is not so easy for folks who are not familiar with Scourge Arrow (even for many poe veteran players). That's the reason I've been trying to be more active to answer you guys' questions and concerns regarding the damage scaling. I know SA is a mechanical skill, so it's not uncommon if you've got issues with single target DPS if this is your first league playing SA.

On the single target topic, I want to remind you that you need to position your spore pods to maximize your DPS. If you release your cursor too far away from the target, many of your thorn arrows would miss. Also be reminded that each spore pod fires 9 thorn arrows, but only 1/9 arrow per pod can hit the same target.

With 1 arrow:


With 2 arrows (+1 from quiver)

Voltaxic is cheap and good dmg wise, Im still using it in t5-t10 maps
But you also need Uber lab ascendancy along with it and Stormcharger boots(if low on currency) OR Duskblight(if got some money to spare)

Emblamer gloves also can help you carry till red maps

I'm adding Herald of Thunder as well, and it seems to work well with Voltaxic. The Enduring mana flask helps mana issue with 2 heralds + 1 aura.
