Hate to break it to you but cluster jewels aren't really that good right now.
Of course there are some things that would make them better, I don't understand why you have to lose out on a passive point by just putting in the jewel. I'm okay with the fact you can't allocate the first passive but you should at least get whatever the implicit is on the jewel when first inserting the jewel in your tree. I also think whatever jewel cluster radius you have (small, medium, large) should be able to allocate another jewel of the same type or lesser. This could be modified of course for certain situations where this would be too strong or OP.
Just feels like another non-fleshed out idea that could of been really fun and cool but has fallen short. I just think the main thing that's really bothering me is the allocating the jewel in the tree. Losing 1 passive point every time to just put the jewel in your tree feels horrible. Thoughts? Edit* Forgot to mention you have to also allocate usually 2 horrible lesser nodes before you can even allocate the jewel node. So in theory you have to waste 3 points before your 4th point really does anything. Last edited by ZACHWILDCAT#1635 on Mar 22, 2020, 9:04:13 PM Last bumped on Mar 24, 2020, 2:48:10 PM

Strange, it's always been that way. You have always needed to spend a passive point on socketing a jewel. I know what you mean, it's just a strange way of looking at it IMO.
As far as how good they are I haven't gone fully down the rabbit hole of theory crafting all the possibilities, but I decided to socket a large one and rework my tree to fill it out and I ended up with 20% more damage than I had before. I lost about 200 life in the deal and some utility that really didn't matter in the end. |

I agree. They just cost too many points to be worthwhile.
I wound up taking all of mine off. It takes like 5 points to even get to the very first skill. When I got done adding up all the total points I had allocated, I realized I would be much better off reallocating the points back to the tree in the normal manner, and just ignoring altogether this new aspect of the league. |

They are great because they allow off-class specialization.(shield block nodes in the upper part of the tree for example, or axe clusters in the top part)
Appart from that you need some very efficient ones to pull off anything great that can't be replicated more efficiently in the passive tree. Mostly this involves highly sparce modifiers in the tree for example, - spell block - + max resistance - status ailment avoidance - status ailment effect% - dodge/spell dodge There are very limited sources of these modifiers so these jewels gain value by that merit alone. If i had to change anything, i would make the small passive atributes also apply to the keynodes on them. For example rolling a +5% cold resistance on a four added passives medium cluster now grants one passive that effect, because in the best scenario you want to run - 1 jewel slot(for small connection or regular jewel) - 2 keynodes to maximize passive point spending This only leaves a single small node that gets the added +5% cold which in theory requires chaos spamming or exalt slaming for a four propperty jewel. If both keynodes also gained the +5% cold resistance then i would at least see some merit in exalt slamming them, but currently i don't find a reason to do so. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

you either have to fully commit to them or completely ignore them. just slotting a single jewel (of any size) isnt efficient. It's when you chain them together that you beat the normal tree. And make sure you get the large jewels with 8 or 9 passives, because you want to cut out as many of the small nodes as you can.
im planning to use 1 large with 2 sockets, leading into 2 mediums, and 2 smalls. it would literally cost me 12 points of travel just to get to constitution, and then 8 points to allocate the full 50% wheel (20 points total). my planned jewel setup gives me a 36% life and an incredible amount of damage for 24 total points. |

Some time 1 passive will give you 3 modifier, including stats. How is that worse than any connecting point in the regular tree which only have stat?
Counting the wasting slot of the original jewel slot, at least it's break even. Just depend on how you customize your skill tree, it let you getting some desired modifier normally you can't get or spending much more to get. Overall, yes, it could be way better but balance wise, it okay. It do what it suppose to do: add more customization for you character. |

5 points to get to 1 notable is something to complain about? You push 1 attribute notable into the tree and then take a 4 passive notable = 5 points. If you stopped there it wouldn’t be worth it, but you can pick up several notables in the meantime. They might not be for every build, but if they weren’t good no one would be using them...certainly not spending several exalts for the privilege.

I get poison immunity, chance to bleed, mana leech, 100% impale (no need for banner) with 10 nodes. How is that bad? This saves me 3 useless travel nodes, a pantheon, gem socket, one support gem. With 5 more points I get insane spell block as well which I couldnt get any other way on my build. Key word is options. These jewels open up alot more options.

" I can admit that there are options that maybe I wasn't looking at but I still believe these jewels are more restrictive in what they allow/do. From what your suggesting I don't see why what I'm suggesting would be out of the question or asking too much. The only way I would exalt these jewels would be if I had leo in research. I understand the uses of the jewels but the uses are still small and get smaller when you get to the endgame jewel crafting (normal jewels). Making a jewel with 5-7% life and most likely 2-3 multipliers is always going to out beat this issue. You have to remember you are also restricted to using these jewels on the outside versus just anywhere in your tree with a jewel slot. I can also understand why they probably did this because of the jewels branching out and causing issues with the cluster jewels over lapping with the normal tree. |

Myself and a friend are running ED/Contagion, using a sucessful skill tree from last league as a base to work from. We spent a couple of hours PoBing what might be the best cluster jewel setup and managed to squeeze and extra 20% more ED dps from the original tree without losing any survivability. I can't afford to craft or buy those jewels right now, but it's certainly something to work for.
More dps, more options. I'm not sure what more you would want from the cluster jewels. |
