So I read all three stories that've won. Both 'Breaking of a Warrior' and 'An End to Hunger' are great, and distinct from each other - one a conventional tale of an event significant to the game, the other a reflection on the world and events of the game from a very different perspective. I loved 'An End to Hunger', definitely my favorite entry. The way Kitava was characterized and (to a degree) humanized reminded me a lot of Malazan Book of the Fallen and



I'm pretty sure that 'Mires of Time' is supposed to be about Harbingers. The way the land is described ("Endless Sands, ashen with mist, seamlessly come together with the ocean just as grey, leading nowhere.") fits the aesthetic of the Beachhead map. The mountain the narrator walks towards is the boss room, the "otherworldly spirals and wild edged shapes" are the patterns on the ground in there. The "strange device" is the Stargate and the "Blue King" with a "squalid crown" is the huge Harbinger that comes out of the gate at the very end of the encounter.
