Money, at least the majority of it, isn't coming from console players, therefore they don't care.

That's not how business works. The business must provide a quality product if they wish customers to spend money. This isn't a kick starter. If you went to the supermarket and asked to buy a chicken but they wanted your money upfront with no actual promise of a chicken then you'd tell them to get fucked. As a consumer you are not responsible for funding anything.
