IS THE FUTURE OF ACTION RPG BEHIND US ?
After reading other players posts (in english), I start dreaming too of a Path Of Exile version where our dear characters could fly, swim, dive, climb (climb on a cliff with a rope or "bare hands", to the top of some tower or mountain, unreachable at first glance, like Conan the Barbarian...). Even to use vehicules, props, passive talents, gems, items or animals to do so... All (most) action RPGs are grounded on solid surfaces; though with various sets (waterfall, river, beach, sand, rocks, grass, forest, town, dungeon, fire, ice, day, night, dust, fog, etc.) Everything is built on limited designs, technological and graphic limitations. Can you imagine the opposite ? ... You are in the Belly of the Beast and the floor is breathing, moving under your footsteps, lifting your hero slightly before his next move... Maybe P.O.E. 2 will do some of these. Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4 feature good points too. Qui est Dominus ? I remember then, an original but forgotten inspiration for those games : the film "Legend" by Ridley SCOTT https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_(1985_film), when he was a director, beyond compare. Darkness character is Diablo for sure. Ambient music : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtU4TEhayR4 There's also some BEOWULF (R. Zemeckis) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf_(2007_film) in the Merveil's character, in those moist caverns... So good luck G.G.G. to "stay in (or out ?) of the light" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge1YHEnLFDE, in the path of "Fortune and Glory", not your Last Crusade to find "Illumination"... Happy New Gear ;-) https://www.artofthetitle.com/title/hellboy-ii-the-golden-army/ https://youtu.be/9OosC1E8TVM --- " Last edited by Se8astien#7180 on Jan 10, 2020, 3:17:00 PM Last bumped on Jun 23, 2020, 5:47:02 AM

op
go play Marvel Ultimate Alliance (2006 version) A lot of these mechanics listed are in that game. climbing. swimming, flying, jumping, blocking, dodging. Obviously the game is dated but the mechanics are super solid and would love to see these implemented into any newer ARPG. I made a post a while back just throwing some ideas about combat out but it fell on deaf ears here. only response I got was "go play another game" |

How about a camera that isn't trying to take a selfie of me at max distance?

I see you had fun making that thread, that's fine an all but ... you simply want another game.
Path of Exile is a point an click game, it's one kind of game and it has its share of technical issues already, and you want to turn it into a third person platformer ( because clearly, that's what you want ) ? => you want a different game. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" VERTICAL LIMIT ? I don't expect GGG or the game community to follow or accept my remarks for the coming years but DELVE, for instance, is a vertical unlimited dungeon (at least, as put in its map) but we are (all) playing it horizontaly without question (FTP game obliges). DELVE is a deviated plateformer mechanic in this very ARPG. But visually, the game looks the same (horizontal). I was more thinking about the way the game's environment feels from a player's perspective. For DELVE, it could be a visible/playable vertical dungeon or inclined floor. I don't think we should/could have this if nobody wants it. At this time of POE's life, we are practically walking on walls with DELVE ! But it works fine with the present POE's graphic engine. My point is more about how to push bounderies in ARPG for the long run, than corrupting POE into another game. I could just play Breath of the Wild to find great mecanics. But it's not ARPG. "Point and click" is pretty much the same since Diablo 1. Will it change inevitably ? (mobile UI influence incoming) When ? How ? Ask Navali ? With and without GGG ? (riding horse in Diablo 4, vertical rooms in Diablo Immortal...). Purity of Innocence for some and Sin's disobedience for others ;-) Last edited by Se8astien#7180 on Jan 26, 2020, 9:25:47 AM

" Not a response from GGG I presume ? Breath of the Wild possibilities (not necessarily the same visuals) into dark cruel ARPG. Should they do it ? Could they do it ? People answering "go play another game" don't really want to discuss. Purity of Innocence indeed. FORUM paradox ? Short view ? Why are they answering then ? Annoyed ? When asked : "can you imagine how greater, games are gonna be, in 5 or 10 years ?" They take it as present bad criticism. Seriously ? What a chapel ! I agree,
Any non linear player capability would be nice, but I wonder how this can fit in GGG PoE design (if it keeps as ARPG Style). This level of character micromanagement or complex skills is usually related to less "map noise" (calculated as monster seen /second) games, I love finding secrets hidden in infinite maps. PD: Dont forget certain H.P Lovecraft references in game lore (I dont remember that shield name now but this...) https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Doryani%27s_Invitation_(Cold_Damage) |

This could be incredible for the game. It'd be so awesome if they made open dungeons. Like no loading between floors, you actually manually move your character down the stairs to the next one.
I'm really hoping they do adventure zones like Warframe, but randomly generated. It'd be a lot easier for them to add this sort of stuff in that. Making Betrayal exclusive to an explorable Vastiri Desert would make the whole thing massively more enjoyable, and probably make a lot of people less pissed about having to do it. Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.
