Sony is officially supporting crossplay since last month. Microsoft has been for a while now.
With all the problems that plague the trade market on consoles, a merge would benefit all console players greatly. More players = more items on the trade board.

Not true, Sony has supported cross-play since literally forever. Nobody has tried to make games cross-play though and just blamed Sony.
Sony has done massive amounts of cross plat games, even with Xbox since the PS2, and has literally never once said they were against it.
The only official statement from Sony on it was, Xbox head guy asked, Sony head guy said that they'd be interested in it for sure. Then nothing came of it and people starting making up these baseless rumors that everyone joins in on because they're robots, and don't give a shit about getting any actual information to what they're saying.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.

Uh, no.
Multiple developers have officially confirmed that Sony would not permit them to put crossplay in their games. Fortnite PROVED it by "accidentally" enabling crossplay for a little while, and then rolled it back because Sony. Now, Sony did back down when there was such a huge outcry, but they still don't make it easy.
Sony would never actually admit publicly that they were the reason, but it was only quite recently that crossplay with XB1 became a thing, and only on a very limited number of games.
Please name a major/AAA title that had crossplay on a Playstation system before 2019.

Cross play has been available for Xbox games since 2016. And since Sony has now offered for specific games to cross-play with Xbox, we think this should be thoroughly explored. FFXI (Way back on PS2, cross playing with the 360), FFXIV the PS3 and 4 version, PSO2, Dragon's Dogma Online, DCUO. And I'm sure a massive amount of others I haven't played.
No developer has ever confirmed shit. They all say "No, Sony won't want to do it" before ever attempting to do it.
I'm becoming more and more certain I may be the only person in the world that possesses thought.
