It don't take resistances,debuffs,curses, enemy defense,charges and ailiments into account. Your DPS in combat is much higher. Ty Lightning trap is a trap by default, with ball lightning you'd need to add the trap support to make it a trap, thats one link spot used up. Secondly lightning trap shoots 9 projectiles in a circle, which is amazing for clear speed (and for safety in HC by hitting all mobs). As far as the damage etc, without having tested it, i'm almost certain ball lightning cannot compete with 6L lightning trap, however as I said, didn't test it.
