Think for a second, if almost the entire community rejected this idea in its current form then how in the hell did it go live? Either GGG has no quality control and just dumps out whatever comes to mind, or Tencent has alot more control than Christ is willing to admit.

Reading the post first time as it is now it really looks like they removed all the bits with incriminating truth though (LUL). Like I don't know, but their marketing practices look seriously sketchy compared to a not too long a while ago.
We've moved further from like "We make gut gaem, pls pls buy shiny, we reward u well" to closer to like EA practices. GGG: *surprised Pikachu face*

Edit: I've been saying this legit for years (even though in slightly different forms): I would pay you just to play, like go subscription model, get your cash the ethical way and give us the banging game PoE deserves to be.

TenCent pushed the Overton window a bit farther now, just preparing the masses for what is to come.

Might as well get used to it, peeps. No amount of "I KNOW BETTER THAN U" will save people from themselves, and the world will always make a dumber person as soon as you save dumb people from doing dumb things.

TenCent now knows where the line is for the current player base. Their next move will be how to move that window just a bit further every time.

Mark my words - this is just the beginning, and as they say in the talkies, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!'

Please please please give this back in whatever iteration necessary so we can get rid of duplicate mtxs.

It´s a fucking disgrace that they even try to make more money from their very poorly designed mystery box concept. Maybe they got a message. But thanking them? Since they sold their indy company to a money making machine, this game cares way more about mtx on a daily base than actual content and fixes. Even their so called balancing is purely a skill mtx rotation machine.
Buff a skill - make some mtx for it - make money - dump the skill. Rinse and repeat.

I´ve been a supporter for years and spent more money on this game than on any other game but I´ve come to realise GGG has had their best days, from here it´s just going downhill.

Here's the thing:

Mystery boxes ARE a gamble. You're paying your points (money) in hopes that you will get good items cheap. Simply that. If you pay fewer points than you would individually to end up with the items you want, even if it means getting a pile of duplicates, you win. GGG wants a large infusion of cash, and if you buy a lot of boxes in your attempt to get whatever it is you seek, they win.

I don't care for Mystery Boxes, and don't buy them, because in gambling, the house always wins. GGG makes a ton of revenue from people who are either bad at math, or who have impulse control issues.

To ask them for any solution which counters the current model of the Mystery Boxes, as I have seen suggested multiple times in this thread, is not only a waste of time, but about as unfair to GGG (for whatever that is worth to you) as the Salvage Box was perceived to be to you. You can't say, "Well, if we end up with dupes we don't want, give us a [cheap/free/easy] way to counter our gambling losses."

You paid your money, and you took your chances.

The problem ultimately lies with the Mystery Boxes, and until the way they work changes (and I don't anticipate that happening), buyers will continue to accumulate unwanted duplicate MTXs, especially if they keep hitting that "BUY" button in false hope of the odds improving or whatever drives them. So forget about the Salvage Box, and think long and hard about the value of pulling the handle on that one-armed bandit, as opposed to waiting for the "prizes" you seek to show up in the Shop so you can buy them risk-free. ='[.]'=

It was in the look on my fiancee's face when I told her about the salvage box -- significant, given she's had to live with my ups and downs with GGG and PoE since early 2012 (and is still going to marry me, miracle of miracles). Even as a relative outsider, she knew just how unlike GGG the whole thing was. Mind you, her hatred of Tencent eclipses mine these days, because you certainly don't have to be an Exile to be exposed to that megacorp's soulless influence. So while she was horrified she was, like me, not surprised.

As for the recanting/scrapping, it was too swift NOT to have been something TencentGGG were ready to pull if initial reactions were particularly nasty. And they were.

Well. The box is not my cup of tea. But it still feels like the lesser evil compared to having your duplicates sitting in your mtx tab. I don’t see myself using this. But I can definitely see some who might want this. In any case, really busy with this league and been missing all the social media drama. Blight is a great league, the usual early league bugs/performance issues notwithstanding.

I’m glad GGG came up with this before Exilecon :D
