Updating POE through steam takes ages and is a problem for my SSD

Every time I'm trying to do even the smallest update through steam it takes literal hours to "allocate" space on my SSD using up 100% of it's performance during ,
I'm not comfortable doing that to my SSD for hours on end because I know how repeatedly rewriting small files can permanently brick it ( that's exactly how my old SSD died) and I'm trying to keep it in good condition ,
now , I uninstalled PoE from steam , if I move to the standalone launcher would I be able to have my account with the stash tabs and microtransactions?

Thank you very much and PLEASE look into this issue I'm very certain every single player has this and it's getting nowhere near enough attention.

yes but you have to follow this guide from GGG to be able to use the stand-alone client when you are a steam user -->

If you created your Path of Exile account via Steam, it will not have an associated email address on our end.

If you would like to add an email address to your Steam Path of Exile account so you may use the stand-alone client, you should be able to do so by logging into our website using the green 'Sign in through STEAM' button on our login page, then navigating to the 'change email' page here: https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/change-email and proceeding to change the email on your account to the email you would like to sign in with on the stand-alone client for Path of Exile.
Hey, that's the exactly the same problem that i have!
Same constellation: PoE in Steam on a SSD. And the updates take ages to install. I can't say since when this behaviour started, maybe the last or the last two seasons? Before everything was normal.
PoE is the only game that shows this phenomenon. So i guess the flaw lies within the game.

Looking forward to any clues how to solve this!

Email support with your steam username, and your email address, and they will link an email address to your Steam POE game.

Once they respond, download the GGG Client (Stand alone client) game to your SSD. You will need to download the entire game again through it, the Data files from Steam are incompatible.

Patches are done in place, instead of where Steam copies the entire game file to a temp directory, patches, Verifies, then copies it back to the game directory.

no need to e-mail support if he wants to use the stand-alone client. He can fix that himself -->

There is how to go from Steam to standalone without re-downloading the whole client.

Exactly same issue here of endless download time for very small updates.

it's just how steam handles updates, they know about it and it effects other games (to a greater or lesser degree).

If it is a problem for you then petition steam to change how they patch (they won't as others have tried for years)

Or change to the stand alone client.

Sorry, but I can't confirm that. I use steam since about 13 years now and own over 400 games on it. I had never ever such problems with any other game once.

I still believe the problem lies at PoE or on my SSD. I'm going to move the game to a normal HDD and we will see if the problem persists. I'll keep you informed!
