Whats the one food that you just can't understand why people don't like it

caraway. you know, the stuff any proper baker would put into and onto bread and rolls because it just makes them so much better?

yet everyone seems to hate them. bakeries nowadays have more rolls without caraway because so many people hate them, I actually get looked at like I'm an alien when I specifically order them with caraway.

Hell yes.

I was in Hungary last week for a business trip and I tried bread rolls with caraway for the first time (Had never heard of it being used before in the UK!), and I gotta admit it was absolutely divine.

Need to make some bread myself it would seem :P

Gorgonzola cheese. I personally love it, many people can't stand it.

Not exactly foods, but spices... cinnamon, black pepper and curry. You can make just about everything better by adding one of them.

If we're talking about food then apple pie. I've met people who don't like it. Just... how? Why? What went wrong in your childhood that made you come to dislike it?
It's the absolute best when still warm, some cinnamon on top and some whipped cream... *drools* now I'm getting hungry.

We started doing homemade pies for holidays, and let me tell you hand made whipped cream is the absolute best. Chill a metal mixing bowl in the freezer for 30 minutes (this is the most critical step, don’t fuck it up), pour in some heavy whipping cream (can be found next to milk and creamers in most US grocery stores), and then beat it however you like. Easy peasy. A little tiring if you don’t use an electric mixer, but then again what isn’t?

Also, heavy whipping cream (unwhipped) in a Sumatra or some kind of mocha roast is like a tiny mealsnack with your coffee. One of my favorite things besides water when working outside, especially in the winter.

There are some really tasty fungi in North America. Even the ones that don't have mortally poisonous lookalikes.

I joked about dog poop earlier, but one thing dog poop is good for is pushing up great patches of Coprinus atramentarius in the spring and fall. These little shrooms are unmistakable - making them a safe pick for amateurs - and as long as you do NOT consume alcohol when you eat them they are tasty.

Chicken-of-the-woods is another one. It's a frilly oatmeal-coloured bracket-type mushroom with a nice tender texture and easy prep. It's harder to find and has some lookalikes that aren't poisonous, but really leathery and obnoxious.

Depending on where you live, if you have a stump, you have a mushroom garden. Mountain states and coastal states with decent rainfall are best. Prairies here tend to be dry but seasonally support many types of puffballs and other easily recognizable types. Unless you're experienced or have the tech to field-test unidentified species, though, stick to what you absolutely KNOW. Scotch Pine is a favourite symbiont of both the edible and common Slippery Jack bolete, and Amanita phalloides. Obv you know not to pick the fucking amanita, but does a 5-year-old know. So be careful.

Good info. I have no idea what mushrooms we cooked, was a long time ago, and I’ve never followed through on wild harvesting.. also a long time ago XD More recently, I’ve been looking at urban farming practices to optimize yields on small plots, and I really like the idea of bucket gardening. The systems collect rain water and use simple mechanics to ensure bucketed soil is always optimally moist. The buckets also ensure soil is free of competing vegetation. Potatoes, carrots, etc, really love buckets, and apparently so do mushrooms (though obviously it’s a different system than a regular garden plot). Mushrooms seem a bit more complicated, I think mostly just because they’re a little bit alien compared to what most people are familiar with growing.

I had a buddy in college who used to grow magic mushrooms in little glass terraria with damp straw and whatnot in the bottom. It was like a ship-in-a-bottle, but instead of the HMS Victory, it's little tan mushrooms in a row along a bar of sawdust or sommink.

I can say with certainty that not only do these taste bad, but your "mileage" may vary.

Broccoli and cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, etc. Very divided camps on these. I can't get enough of them, properly fresh or sauteed in butter or garlic oil. I can see why some folks who grew up with limp, parboiled Brassica might object.

When every other thread here is about the devs curbstomping mana builds, peeing on them and leaving them for dead in the gutter, and then you wander in here and see all the delicious dinners you haven't had in months because you were glued to your computer farming glaciers or something.

There's no food that would make me "can't understand why people don't like it". To answer what you probably meant — nothing comes to my mind as it's usually me who is picky. I hate when people try to put onion to every dish.

I once read a forum thread about raisins in cheesecake and was surprised so many people dislike this combination.

Tuna? Why? Tuna is one of the tastiest fish out there. A simple pan fry tuna is heaven. Or tuna in vinegar with onion, ginger, garlic.. hmnn nice. Or just a toasted tuna sandwich, muah delicious.
