As I see it, there are several possible solutions:

1. GGG stop using Google Cloud for additional server capacity.
2. Google/Russian Telecoms add peering between RU East and Japan/Asia
3. Google stops re-routing cloud content back to Japan and instead serves us content from Europe.

I personally can't see the second option happening unless there's a major business case. That leaves 1 and 3. Obviously option 1 would help us but doesn't do much for GGG elsewhere. For option 3, I've asked GGG to see why Google need to send traffic back to Japan instead of using one of their European locations.

The best solution for all of us in the Far East is what you're asking for in your signature, a return of a localised server, either Khabarovsk or Vladivostok. I wrote to Chris a couple of weeks ago and he asked for details of hosting providers here. He said GGG would investigate.




I thank you for the detailed answer, option 3 is extremely doubtful (option 1 with server upgrade would be just as good, but also financially questionable by GGG, I don’t think they will go for it. Returning the server is of course a dream but it is even more expensive, although at the moment from the technical side there are no special problems. If you wish, you can make a request to the regional center, without legal problems, but it seems to me that the server will not be returned to us, perhaps all the same they will improve the current ones and this will not happen soon. that rather everything hundred and nothing happens and we forget about sometimes writing that work is being done. UPDATE

Today my ping on Japan realm went from 200 ms down to 25ms on log in screen and 32-35ms in HO. Will play and test stability today =)

Another UPDATE

So i was playing yesterday for like 6 hours straight on Japan realm. Firstly ive tried lockstep - felt somewhat okish, but as soon as i started to map ping was spiking to 50 ms every like 10-20 seconds, with huge spikes to like 300 ms when my ED+Cont was engaging legion. After that i switched to predictive and played without any lags on ED char (with couple desyncs), BUT playing Cyclone without lockstep desyncs me A LOT, like really every 10 secs a had to /oos. After all that near 23:00 NZT ive tried to run uber lab and it was SUPER frustrating, i've got DC'ed in first 2 rooms like 3-4 times, wasted all of my offerings. After that i've tried Delve, but it was laggy too, every second or third time it was not creating instances and i had to port to town.

TLDR :
Predictive > ED+Cont = smooth, Cyclone = bad desyncs.
Lockstep > ED+Cont = lag and spikes, Cyclone = kinda smooth.

Feels like there are still some problems with server capacity/performance, when lockstep sends too many actions (contagion spreading) - it starts lagging cause it cant or dont want to calculate all of this quickly. It cant be ISP problem cause its stable 60 mbps upstream/downstream to any Japan server in terms of bandwidth.

Unfortunately, for those of us in Far East RU, it looks like we're stuck with the random ~400ms Google instances. Although connections to these will become less frequent as the league progresses.

I had hoped GGG would be able to load balance with the European Google Cloud but apparently they only use Google in Japan.

I'm really glad the peering with japan has been fixed and the latency is back to ~35ms but for me, the constant Google connections makes the game unplayable. Hopefully in a few weeks, once the player base tails off...
