Woaw i just saw this and the ZiggyD review.

Instant dash and animations cancel, breach like league, and the rest... woaw GGG knows how to get back on their feet i guess.

Where is the originality? These last few leagues seem uninspired and reworks of things already done with a different name. At first glance it seems disappointing but I will save my final judgement until after the new league.
Looks nice, glad to see I won't need 3 tabs open and a spreadsheet to enjoy the league mechanic this time around.
Fascinating. Aside from the supporter packs, the fact that we will be seeing five distinct factions from Wraeclast's past does give opportunity for new earnable skins... however, I must again express my disappointment at the lack of corresponding shield skins in most armor skin sets.

The league mechanic itself sounds like an expanded version of essences, which is by no means a bad thing. However, this intended adjustment to core gameplay mechanics stuck out in particular.

I for one suspect this will be very similar to its counterpart back in Torchlight 2 (reference), which is a good thing. Yes, certain weapons (claws and rapiers come to mind) don't have attack arcs, but have something special in return... which raises a reasonable question: "does this render Cleave useless?" Likely not - one possible solution is (again, using TL2 as a basis) that it gives 'point' weapons the standard attack arc, and simply enhances the arc of others.

Also, one should wonder - will we finally be seeing new weapon types? Spears and crossbows come readily to mind, seeing as models and animations for the most part already exist. Spears, I imagine, would be a 2H version of rapiers; both of these could benefit from a hypothetical new gem: Power Thrust (which replicates an attack used by certain spear-wielding NPCs)...

So, initial thoughts:

Splinters are bad. You guys should know this by now. Still clogging up the game with more junk, as usual.

Naming it after a recent WoW expansion and using Carnage artwork to tease it is laughable.

The monolith effect is cool, but the soldier density is low. I hope that what is shown is blue or white maps or something. Guess what - we want to free ALL the soldiers and fight them ALL at once. We DON'T want to waste time running around freeing a tiny amount of them and then waste more time killing a small amount of them. Guys... come on.... This is your MAIN LEAGUE MECHANIC....

Cyclone finally looks like something that should have existed, you know, 7 years ago.

Attack/animation canceling is awesome but I bet it won't work well unless you're on lockstep.

For all the melee changes, actually watching the gameplay looks... well... no different. I mean honestly, it still looks quite incredibly terrible.

Similarly, Blood and Sand stance archetypes make me want to vomit.

Overall, looks like melee is going to get about as much love as spellcasters did in 3.6, which is to say, practically none. But talk it up!

P.S. I am ashamed to tell people I play this game when your supporter pack page still showcases demos with models that look so unbelievably, horrifically out of date. Holding off on 4.0 that is still a year away for new models is really hurting getting new fans who are turned off by how outrageously out-of-date this game looks at a glance. One of the first things you do is create a character, and what do you see? Only one of the most hideous PS2-era animation and character select screens this century. Out of all of your priorities, it's unreal that you have pushed this to dead last.
(2-3-2019) Buff underused skills (3.23?!)+ selfcast, stop nerfing defense, build in threshold jewels (3.23?!), implement D3-style looting, add death log + MTX preview, actually rework flasks, stop balancing around the .01%, unnerf Harvest, ADD NEW WAYS TO LEVEL, finally implement Loot 2.0
Fuck.
The time-based clear-speed league again?
I can already see incubator cheese.
