I Support Epic Games (about Exclusive Titles)

I'm trying to follow your logic, but I just can't. Somewhere in that short paragraph you got upset enough to say 'That's bullshit' but I'm not exactly sure why.

I dunno, when consumers see two companies going after one another like this they should be rubbing their hands together saying, 'dis gon be gud!'They should be instigating rather than choosing one side over the other. *shrug*

I acknowledged in my first post that it might be good in the mid or long term. It's not guaranteed though. And right now it's bullshit. The Epic launcher is objectively inferior to Steam in pretty much every single way. And now 3rd party devs are being paid to exclusively launch their games on that shitty launcher. It's also unprecedented in the PC gaming area, where choice is a core principle.

People keep comparing this to consoles but nobody buys Epic's incredibly shitty console (compared to Valve's great console) just to play 3rd party games.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
yeah but... if you pit them against one another just imagine how ridiculous the summer and christmas sales are going to get. If Valve feels threatened they might cut the price of their VR equipment in half this Decenmber. Who the heck knows. I doubt it but I think the sales would be pretty crazy compared to if Valve feels unthreatened by Epic.

But I guess a shitty browser and the fact that one company is making deals involving filthy dirty... 'money'.... ew money why do businesses ruin everything with money. yuck.gross. That's enough to write them off I guess.

Two women in the games industry discuss the nexus between Epic games and Anthem. You can watch teh entire podcast if you want, it's pretty cool. But the link starts at the part where she talks about how many of the devs on Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem wished they'd been allowed to use Unreal Engine instead of Frostbite.

Relevance being, that professionals think of Unreal un such a good light and Epic is giving it away for free. It's like free diamonds and cavier that they are allowing everyone to use.
You're talking from the position of someone in the games industry. Not sure why, are you even employed in the industry?

Releasing a rabid dog to deal with the wolf that snuck into your yard is a poor idea.

That's my point. You don't have to live in LA or San Franscico in order to gain a path into the industry. I'm not even speaking of myself as if I'm on that path - I'm saying that there are children all over the world, who right now, are spending their free time using Unreal Engine and those will be the future Chris Wilson and Miyamotos and it's partially thanks to Epic games.

I over estimated you guys' ability to appreciate that. Having to opening a nother launcher clearly is the greatest sin a company can commit. What was I thinking.

You're still misrepresenting the people's issues with the Epic Games launcher.

To point some of em out:

In comparison to steam, the epic games launcher has...
1) Less social features (no reviews of games, no forums)
2) Less protection of user data
3) Less game related features (no achievements, no mod support)

Only a very small amount of consumers actually cares about where their money goes and at what rate as long as they get good enough service for it. The epic games store simply doesn't offer the features that steam has, so naturally people want to keep using steam.
Having rival game platforms is not a bad thing in and on itself. Rivalry between buisnesses forces them to improve upon themselves to stay relevant. At least, that's how it should be. The problem with the epic games store is that it doesn't try to compete with steam at all, it tries to go for victory by default if you want. Instead of trying to grow it's userbase with good additional features like steam did, it tries to force new users to it with exclusivity deals. Which is something that I very much doubt will work in the long run. Deals like that are bound to become a PR nightmare.

It's like saying that you won a 100 meter sprint against someone else when you had someone hold them in place until you were already halfway to the goal.
The current way they do things won't do anyone in the industry any good. All it does is giving other companies the idea that exclusivity deals are a good thing. Which they most definitely aren't.

TL;DR: Epic games tries to force customers to come instead of offering them a better service than competitors, a decision which is much more likely to both cause a PR disaster and drive customers away.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.
Urgh people like the OP are why we can't have nice things.

People hate Epic for a myriad of things BUT the one constant is the outright disgust for Epic's grab for exclusive deals.

It's proof that Epic has no faith in their product since they're resorting to bribing Publishers/Developers to be on their store front.

Again Epic is creating a exclusive monopoly to fight Valves imaginary monopoly.
