What is the Point of Playing Leagues When So Much of our Progress Is Reset on Standard?

I am a standard player, who plays leagues for two reasons: To bring home goodies for my stable of characters, and to get the "new content" completed when it is easier to focus on it.

I played Betrayal through, bonus completed every map on my atlas, rolled a level 95 brand character, and spent weeks killing every possible permutation of Betrayal masters.

Well, the patch rolls around and:

1: My character's skills are nerfed. (This is the one and only thing I find understandable). Though reasonable given the over-tuned nature of the skills, it still stings nonetheless. I would not cry if GGCent could perhaps release new skills in a state that would not virtually guarantee they get de-tuned once the league ends.

2: My atlas has been trashed - all that time and work full completing and shaping my atlas nuked. I ran a corrupted Minotaur on the advice of people in global, and all my red tier maps don't give me their bonus... now it seems I have to go buy all these expensive maps and corrupt and run them all again. I am not made from exalted orbs... far far far from it.

3: My map pool is shot - I never had many to begin with, so it's back to hemorrhaging money to try and purchase maps because the old ones don't seem to work for credit anymore. I can vendor them... and lose 2/3rds of my map pool? That's not an acceptable solution in my opinion... and I'll be honest... I don't have enough red tier maps to even make a dent in what I have to replace at a 3:1 ratio.

4: I add Jun to my hideout... and... despite killing hundreds upon hundreds of betrayal masters... she is... level 1. The same thing happened with Einhar despite capturing hundreds of beasts. The same thing happened with the Delve master I spent so many hours working on... Same with Alva who I know I had completed every room for... I did all of this already... for thousands of hours... why am I forced to repeat everything I already completed in leagues all over again?

I did all of this work, and now it's largely been wiped out? Why should I bother to play Leagues? As I sit here re-grinding Jun... re-doing all the red maps in my atlas... I can't for the life of me come up with a good reason to. If I will just have to re-do it all my work again anyways, it's best that I just sit it out. That's what you're incentivising here.

By skipping leagues, I only have to grind the league content a single time, I can hold off on picking skills until they are balanced at a sane power level... and... well... my Atlas is still apparently going to get blasted by GGCent every three months to try and sell me new stash tabs. (Sorry guys... not happening - you've soaked this particular whale enough - easily to the tune of several thousand dollars. Go pester the Chinese players, they seem to like getting robbed to an insulting degree).

After Betrayal, I can't shake the notion that Leagues are really just GGCent using the players as beta-testers who pay for the privileged of unit-testing game mechanics not ready for prime-time.

Standard is supposed to be relatively stable, and it is anything but right now. But more critically, I am exhausted with having to do everything over and over and over again. When I complete something I rather dislike having that time investment stolen from me - erased.

That is a very concerning lack of regard for our time investment. I've paid more for this product than the computer I play it on - and it is a very nice PC. I would appreciate not being mistreated in return.

Thanks.

If you dont like it, play just leagues. Most of people doesnt care because they play only leagues.
Standard is something I'll never touch. You can gear up and do top end content 1-2 weeks into the league anyway.
IMO every league should be voided - no std, no problems.
Play the game as GGG intended :)

Trust me, most players would like it becuase GGG could make those leagues WAAAY more crazy.
I have crippling altitis, so a soft reset every so often where old characters can live on in an archive and new characters get a new thing to do is fine for me.

Could they?

It seems to me, if Standard did not exist GGG would be a whole lot more cautious about doing crazy things in the leagues themselves.

Take Betrayal for instance: a lot of players hated the Syndicate, so they quit Betrayal and went back to Standard. If Standard didn't exist for them to go back to, they'd likely just quit the league and go play something else. A reduction in the number of active players is *not* good for GGG or PoE.

If you're still playing PoE, albeit in Standard, then you're still potential buyers of MTX such as stash tabs and cosmetics. If you stop playing, you're not. Thus GGG would have to make leagues where the content can be bypassed or ignored (like Synthesis or Incursion), and that would limit the scope of what they could do.
By crazy I mean something like Mayhem was. They could make it so crazy only because its voided.

The people who tend to criticise Standard players seem to forget that league players come and go. More often than not, leagues tail off quite quickly, with players having left to play something else or moved to Permanent leagues.
