increased Elemental Damage with Weapons

I'd actually say this is not as obvious as it seems. There is nothing strange about assuming there might be a distinct difference between the elemental damage property on a weapon (IE, 3-17 Lightning Damage, 6-15 Fire damage) and attacks that convert a percentage of physical damage into elemental damage. That the game doesn't differentiate between the two is in fact nice to know, but is not explained anywhere.

I am assuming the weapons with extra elemental damage listed as above are doing that damage on each hit. According to the tooltips in-game up for grabs whether Lightning Strike or Infernal Blow - which convert percentages of physical damage into elemental damage - is differentiated from additional elemental damage dealt by the weapon property.

"Increases elemental damage done with weapons" is not necessarily the same as "Increases elemental damage done with weapons and attack skills" as far as language and communication is concerned. There's a reason other games get specific in their tooltips, and this kind of confusion is why.

I just went hunting for this very distinction because I was unsure if the game was treating attack skills as "elemental damage with weapons" or if it was differentiating between attack skills and regular every day normal attacks for the purposes of the passive skill's effects.

This is a reasonable question. Some of us don't feel like assuming the game's mechanics function a certain way just because it 'sounds right.'

from the short time i've played this wonderful game i've come to realize that u need to pay EXTRA attention to the grammar and sentence structure of ALOT of talents and such. the key example is the *more* as opposed to *added* word in some skills and talents. More = multiplicative if i'm not mistaken, otherwise its simply added using simple math......please correct me if i'm wrong on this though. Kinda wished i had paid a bit more attention in english class haha.

Theres all kinds of word jumblish skills n such that u need to read a few times/test to fully understand. Its a learning process :)

I'm wondering if a GGG dev can clarify this? Do the increased weapon elemental damage passives effect the damage of skills like glacial hammer?

People have been already saying in this thread that yes, they do. I agree though, it would have been *nice* if at some point GGG had modified the language, at least on the passive skill screen where experimentation in-game can't easily be undone (too often), "increased elemental damage with weapon ATTACKS". That's clear, then, that it's not just the damage ON the weapon, and it's not just the + from that and other items, it's all elemental damage that comes with a weapon ATTACK. Skills or otherwise.

And this would further make it clear that it doesn't apply to, for example, Tempest Shield damage. Which I'm assuming it doesn't. But that would be cool if it did, lol.

@Aargh: Thank Your for posting the question!

I was unclear also - like with many things in the game.. (i.e. augmentation vs. alteration is unnecessarily misleading imo - aside from creating redundancies in our, already well-established, concept of the English language)

Although we could safely assume that everybody above lvl 5 can read and comprehend what is written, things can get confusing when you are in a group and in between instances, trying to improve an item in a hurry..

@Bretout: Should one require a PhD in RPGs for 60 minutes a day of hack'n'slash-action?? Some people also have a r/l, you know..
