"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package." - Fix inside!
So, I'm running a Mac set up, does it need to be bootcamped to a Windows partition to allow the install to work? Sitting back opening it in my archiver and it's telling me it's "corrupt" and won't go any further.

A lot of FUD in this thread:
Note: this was on a 9.31m client, fully working version (previously on ER), content.ggpk 4.51 gigs 1) Path of Exile > Logs > Client.txt will tell you where your "checking resources" failed 2) In my experience, I was hanging on 2Ditems 13 repeatedly 3) I checked all AV, firewalls, running as admin etc (which, btw, hadn't changed since last time I loaded it) 4) I used the pack checker http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/18531 and the "checking resources" then randomly failed at a later point of the checklist - after wanting to re-download 100's of TEMPORARY mini-map files (like... WUT? Surely you'd make those client side generated?) 5) Re-ran Pack checker 6) "Checking resources" back to 2Ditems 13 ... 7) PoE accidently uninstalled while attempting fixes via the msi file 8) Ok - delete all PoE stuff, including my documents / PoE 9) Brand new d/l - oh, look. Client hangs on 2Ditems 13 again. 2013/01/22 14:57:38 ***** LOG FILE OPENING ***** 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220297 107 [INFO Client 2884] Send protocol version 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220438 16b [INFO Client 2884] Web root: http://patchcdn.pathofexile.com/0.9.13.23/ 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220438 16c [INFO Client 2884] Backup Web root: http://patch203.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/0.9.13.23/ 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220438 177 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting root contents 1 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 19f [INFO Client 2884] Got file list for "" 0 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: OpenAL32.dll 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: patch_notes.rtf 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art 1 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: vorbis.dll 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder minimap 2 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Data 3 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: ogg.dll 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: CrashUpload.exe 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: wrap_oal.dll 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder scripts 4 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: vorbisfile.dll 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29220968 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Shaders 5 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29221046 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Audio 6 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29221046 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Metadata 7 2013/01/22 14:57:39 29221046 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: ShaderCache.dat 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 19f [INFO Client 2884] Got file list for "Art" 7 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1e4 [INFO Client 2884] Queue file to download: Art/UIImages1.idl 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/2DArt 8 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/particles 9 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/Microtransactions 10 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/Models 11 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/Textures 12 2013/01/22 14:57:41 29222372 1d7 [INFO Client 2884] Requesting folder Art/2DItems 13 content.ggpk now 16,385 KB, proving that I was able to d/l some of it at the very least. Hmm. From 4.51 gig... 16 meg. 10) F.T.S. PoE Ciao, I'll perhaps check in a few months if anyone has their shit together & fixed stuff. This is balls for a public open beta launch tomorrow; nor am I enamoured of having to "reinstall from scratch" any time there's a simple issue. ~ And I'm one of those who paid to close beta test - F2P peeps are going to care less. p.s. Being told that it's "probably your ISP" when I'm repeatedly finding an issue with a single file is total nonsense. Hint: If your client <> server protocols might be stopped by p2p limiting, you NEED to have a self-checker in there that reports the issue to the player. You know, like Steam does. Otherwise, GRRRAAAAH, sloppy. (And no, since my Steam can get through, I suspect that it's not my ISP) Last edited by Nameless_One#4282 on Jan 22, 2013, 10:13:13 AM

If any of you guys are getting the "The installation should be on a local hard drive" error, then please check the link below. This worked for me!
I am using Windows 8 Pro. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4959285 Check the answer. When you follow the exact steps, it should work for you, too. |

" The patch will save your progress - You should now have far less than 4gb to download. Balance & Design

I had the same problem.
Seems there are two patchers. The one I downloaded right after creating my account was about 1.3 megs. I got the error that the MSI was invalid and etc on Windows 7 Home x64. I deleted the file, went into my account on the website www.pathofexile.com and clicked Download Now on the top right. The file downloaded fine but was now 6.7 megs instead of 1.3megs. Installer worked fine after. |

I Was having trouble getting it to download from the website. Was saying It wouldnt download it because it was uncommonly downloaded er something to that effect.
Im running windows 7, Ran Windows Exporer as Admin and it worked just fine. |

OK so I have been searching through the forums and trying lots of different things to fix this but so far nothing has worked. I just continue to get this message,"This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." and I have run out of ideas to try. Any help would be appreciated.

I finally found a fix to the "There is a problem with this windows installer package" error after many hours. I have windows 7 64-bit.
Before you start, you can also disable your anti-virus so it does not interfere with the installation. Also, if you can run anything as an admin, do so to avoid any unseen issues (game.exe, client.exe, the installer etc.) First, I ran the installer with check compatibility, then when it pops up the error, DO NOT press anything on the installer (e.g. ok or the X). Instead, there should be a shortcut on your desktop which should start the launcher. Double click that, and let the game download the files and install (~5GB). For those having their progress wiped after closing the .msi installer, before you close it make a copy of the Content.ggpk inside the directory (since it is 5GB and redownloading it would be hassle). Then you can close the installer window and replace the Content.ggpk back into its folder. If you see Client.exe in your directory, you can skip the paragraphs below as you can create a launcher off it Client.exe by just creating a shortcut to it and placing it on your desktop. Once it's done installing/downloading, go back to the installer, right click it, and extract the files with 7-zip or winrar. When done, extract the other files that can be extracted (redist etc.) Eventually, you should get a file called "GAMEEXE". Now rename it to GAME.EXE and place it into the directory where you installed the game with its other files. After that, just run Game.exe and it should start up the launcher, download any patches if any, and the game should work from there. Once done, check if it also downloaded Client.exe. Once you have Client.exe, you no longer need Game.exe and can therefore delete it. You can now create a launcher off of Client.exe by just creating a shortcut to it and placing it on your desktop or where you prefer. If all else fails, try unzipping the "redist.rar" into a folder named "redist" from the installer and placing it in your directory. I couldn't find any other post so I decided to post this. This worked for me and it might work for you too (cross your fingers!) Here is what is located inside my PoE folder and I am able to play it without any issues. http://imgur.com/bTvn8i5 Last edited by Aengker#0099 on Jan 30, 2013, 8:39:46 PM
