Let's flip this neverending trade whinge on it's head, shall we? Y'all wanna know what the REALLY unbearable trade interaction is? It's NOT when someone fails to answer your request for a trade. (they owe you nothing. YOU are the one seeking a trade, if they are too busy to answer then stop whining and seek it elsewhere) No. No. The truly egregious shit is when I drop everything for a trade request, instantly portal back to my hideout so I can make the trade, just to have the shithead on the other end tell me they no longer want the item. And that's if I'm lucky. Often as not, the feckwit on the other end doesn't even SAY A GODDAMNED THING. They just decline the invite and don't have the basic human decency to say "oh, sorry, I bought it from someone else" GRrrrrr!!!! What, you couldn't wait zero-point-four seconds for me to invite you before spamming your request to a dozen other poor bastards? And you can't even make the effort to let me know? ARRggggg! MAKES ME MAADDDDD! Hillock smash!!- levels of rage at that fuckwittery right here, I'll have you know.

Why would you ever leave what you're doing before someone joins the party? It makes zero sense.

The trade system, or truly lack there of is exactly why I can not bring myself to play anymore. Sure I log in and play some every season since creating my account, but it is always the same reasons I stop playing mid season.

Between the no-reply's, the price fixers and the players who look to screw over new players. It all has become too much.

They have already implemented a superior trade system in China. Not sure what I am referring to? Google it and watch the videos. Is it perfect, nope. Is it better than the crap we have, YES, yes it is!

I have said it since I started playing the game, the lack of a true AH will be the downfall of this game. Which is really sad, because 90% of the work is already complete. All you need to do is allow my currency to be moved into your items tab, while placing your item in my inventory. This should even be able to be done off line. Hell you could set it so i could visit your stash and exchange it right there with zero interaction from the seller. Games have included this form of trading for a very long time. Hell, even Everquest a game going on its 19th expansion pack has this exact "technology". GGG step up your game, you are 90% of the way there!

Additional Thoughts: The cosmetics in the game are very over priced. I know many of you were on-board paying these higher prices when they were an independent company, but now that they are owned by a Chinese gold selling company it just feels like they are ripping everyone off...which is why they were so appealing to their new Chinese Masters.

My thoughts, my opinions.
The trading system is meant to handle a small number of highly valuable sales and an equally small number of highly valuable purchases. It works fine for that.

It's not meant to handle large volumes of low value sales and purchases.

You certainly don't have to like it if you don't want to, but it is by design.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'
Come on, this is POE so it's "trade NEVERMORE". That should be obvious to all but the blithering trade bots.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Because in spite of being disappointed time and again, I still have a naive faith in the fundamental decency of my fellow human being. I wouldn't expect you to understand, Marlo. (I saw what you did to the coop. And poor Prop Joe! Shame on you.)
Knowledge is power.
Power corrupts.
Stay stupid.
If someone doesn't reply to you when buying a cheap item, just message the next seller. You shouldn't really need to buy many things that are cheap unless you're bulk buying maps or prophecies though. If you're needing gear you can most of the time just craft it yourself and sell if you don't need it for profit or use it. Either that or buy it.

Try not to have an over-reliance on poe.trade, start using built in game mechanics to get what you want. For instance, buying all T1-T7 maps and completing them for Atlas so you can start sustaining maps and not have to buy them again. Things like that and the crafting system make cheap items nearly irrelevant after you have leveling gear. Roll your own flasks, vendor buy most gems from Act 3 Library etc.
Most of the people who argue for an AH are those who never played EverQuest, or D3 before the RMAH was removed. Those two games as a minimum eloquently show why an AH is a bad idea. It would kill PoE, and I think GGG know that.

I wouldn't mind an offline trading ability for maps, but I'm not even sure that is a good idea. What I *would* like is for trading bots to be nuked and excluded. It's past time for GGG to get super aggressive on that front.
I have recently adopted a hybrid technique.

If someone asks me for 1C trade and I'm for example lvling and don't want to be too much interrupted, I'll reply to him 2C+ sells only.

This gives him opportunity to actually overpay and get my attention or to find another person. Expect more of such practice from me in future!
MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS!

The thing that i learnt is that if you can't answer in 10s from the moment the whisper arrived, then you don't answer at all. People have already massage someone else.

If you want to see what's player doing, use command "/whois" and you'll see if he is playing or not. If he is playing that he probably couldn't answer you in time.

If he is in town then you have 4 possible option:
1. they just put the item there with no intention to sell them, you can easily ignore them

2. they are afk and didn't see the massage

3. they already sold the item but people keep massage them (i got some messages even 90 mins after i sold the item)

4. they are selling a lot of items and there are to many people in town to invite you. To those sellers just send few more whispers

Whit this type of trading you can't expect everything to go smoothly every time. Once i spend almost 15 mins to buy one t2 map.

EDIT:
i forgot at 5th, they don't answer because they have you on they ignore list.
