Hey you need an elder base.

The Elder Suffix
Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance

iLvl 68: Attacks have +(0.5–1)% to Critical Strike Chance ()
iLvl 84: Attacks have +(1.1–1.5)% to Critical Strike Chance ()

these are the rolls if you get a 68 or higher elder base you can look to get 0.5-1 % crit.

If you get 84 or higher you get the chance to roll 1.1-1.5% crit which is the higher roll, so you require an elder base 84+ vaal regalia( they are cheap I think - I bought mine for 4 c last week)

but yes Fossil spam that elder chest with Dense + Serrated, and wait for the glorious 700+ es chest with crit mod :D

Is it one of those things that there IS a difference but hard to tell? What is the reason to not use a higher ES shield? WHat inherent benefit does Lycosidae have to dps?
