[3.6] Tectonic Slam Jugg: MELT CONTENT (melee lives!) Razors build (discontinued)

3.7 Update
The Razor variant of Tec Slam is no longer worth pursuing. It was already niche, but the massive reduction in attack speed and the new difficulties in proccing Soul of Arakaali due to the Immortal Call nerf, plus the still finicky endurance charge generation, the life gain from the swords is not worth building around with Tectonic Slam.

I highly recommend Rake's Tec Slam guide for excellent itemization info and TS discussion:

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2503553/

I may revisit the swords with Berserker later in the league, but I'll start something new if that's the case. Good luck!

This build features:
- Massive AoE
- Relatively inexpensive gear
- Excellent map clearing
- Potentially 1mil Shaper DPS
- Turning your screen orange
- Classic melee gameplay (auto targeting like Sunder)

Well, that's some news. With ggg bringing Build of the Week back, I'll consolidate this info and summarize the variants into a coherent video guide.

UPDATE MARCH 14
Some of the leveling advice below could be improved upon. The lack of Hillock weapon quality is making it hard to get high dps Razors with good corruptions (at a reasonable price). No Cinderswallows also sucks. DPS is below a million; clearing any map is great, guardians and like toughness bosses are a pain. With ideal gear and a few levels dps would optimistically be in the 1.2-1.5 range. Looking forward to melee changes in 3.7, Chimera video below:

PoB (lvl90): https://pastebin.com/vZG3Tdj0 (wave -res not included, swap in fire pen (140%) for added fire (120%) for bossing and drop war banner)

Everything below here is based on 3.5 and is still applicable. 3.7 will be the melee patch so we can wait a few months to throw this all in the garbage and start again. You can follow the 3.5 guide and dig through 58 pages of Q&A and still complete all content. We aren't hit by the leech changes, so that's nice.

One change I would make for 3.6 is to go crit. With bosses' curse resist being lowered and the small buff to assassin's mark, I think you should be able to get over 70% shaper crit chance. Short guide, including more league starter info, and rough gearless trees:
Spoiler

So you want to start the league with Tectonic Slam? Great! Check the leveling info in the 3.5 guide because I'm sure I won't cover everything. And to reiterate, this is now based on an eventual transition to crit.

70 point tree:
https://pastebin.com/1SmqeH4M
Kill Alira or kill all

-Use any skill until you switch to TS. Molten strike, Sunder, whatever. ID rares and use whatever. 2 handers are fine! Any base is fine! Just get enough deeps and a 4link asap.

-Use a mana flask until you stabilize. Take revelry on the tree, more mana leech nodes, and/or blasphemy with warlord's mark.

-You may start using TS at 28 or wait (grab that warchief totem regardless). If you're not sure, just plug it into your links and see how it feels. A few reasons to wait are no multistrike until 38, if you are reliant on any physical leech to sustain you will lose it, and you do not have endurance charge generation yet unless you give up a link for the underwhelming endurance charge on stun gem. Warlord's blasphemy is available at 31 and is worth trying if you want to get the most out of TS asap (drop AA, and see if you can sustain mana without dropping a herald).

-Get your blood magic > movement skill > FA > fortify online as soon as you have the links.

-Take Unyielding with cruel lab. You now have end charge generation.

TS 4 link: TS > multistrike > combustion > melee phys
(remember you aren't 100% to fire at this point)

118 point tree with more life:
https://pastebin.com/WbEE0tYp
(you will have to test and decide what works for you, what to cut and what you may want to add)

-Before you transition to crit you will need: accuracy, a means of ass mark cursing, enough points to go into crit nodes on the tree to be worth it (Disembowling) and hopefully a diamond flask. Oskarm gloves are available at 52 and should be the first unique you target. You may need to wait until you get Undeniable in merc lab to have enough accuracy to drop RT. You'll have to test.

-Upgrade your weapons as needed. Don't take the sword nodes if you're running around with 2 cool axes you found. At level 58, corsair swords are usable, which are the best one handed sword base, so that's a good time to shop. At 60, Scaeva's are available. You can main hand a Scaeva with an Ichimonji off hand and go well into maps. There will be rares better than these of course.

-Start looking for Razors and an Eye of Innocence while filling out your atlas. Before this, Daresso's Defiance, which this guide was originally based on, is a very good, fun, and fast chest for mapping. Whatever works though.

-If you want to start farming Phoenix for these drops, fill out your atlas up to t10s, then buy some Waste Pools. This map is the new t15 that connects to Phoenix. It's also a very good map.

-Map mods you can't do: ele reflect, no life/mana recovery. You can and should roll maps aggressively. Once you have merc lab done and take Unstobbable, temp chains maps are pretty fun.

-and finally, when you have the eye of innocence set up, respec Unyielding to Unbreakable.

NOTES:
This build will have more damage and less life than the EO version. Phase/Acro is there to try and help this but you will have to really focus on getting life on gear. and chaos res. The oni version will do more damage and crit more consistently, but has even less survivability. Loreweave is still probably BiS unless there are some wild synthesis chests. If there's an easy way to shove consecrated ground into this build, you should do that.

Bonus spicy Inquisitor theory build
Spoiler

Take this:

and one of these:
https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Precursor%27s_Emblem_(Endurance_Charge)
with "15% chance that if you would gain Endurance Charges, you instead gain up to your maximum number of Endurance Charges" (NOTE: this can roll multiple times on the same ring, so look for a 30% chance)

and use the Eye set up as usual. tbh you can use this to simulate the Jugg endurance charge generation on any class, but the new crit chance with Consecrated Ground and the ability to create it while 'stationary,' which i assume means every time you attack, seems pretty nice. You will not get the 100% crit chance from Righteous Providence. but the rest looks great. Except you lose your Jugg accuracy and will have to figure out how to get enough life. You could also just drop the razors and go with high end foils or something. good luck!

UPDATE: Drop Unyielding, we don't need it to sustain charges with the set up. I'm on Unbreakable right now, seems to help in delves, but I haven't tested much yet. If you want to grab Unrelenting and endurance charges, go for it. Let us know how it works out and how noticeable the change is.

Build explanation
Spoiler

There's a fair amount going on here, but it's all automated for easy clearing. I'm going to miss something, but here are the mechanics:

NEW (3.5) Tectonic slam :
- Charged Slam (which typically consumes an Endurance Charge) now deal 60% more damage (up from 18%).
- Now has a 35% chance to consume an Endurance Charge to create a Charged Slam (down from 100%)

35% doesn't seem like a lot, but it checks 3 times/multistrike, so it actually is. Endurance charges are generated from Unflinching, Unyielding, and Daresso's. You can see in the videos the charge number ping-ponging (this is why we don't take additional charges on the tree).

NEW (3.5) Daresso's Defiance :

Life Buff
You gain Onslaught for 5 seconds per Endurance Charge when Hit (up from 2)
(60-100)% increased Onslaught Effect

That juicy Onslaught procs for 20 seconds when hit at max charges. Immortal Call procs before the lose all charges on hit mod, which means a long proc on that as well.

NEW (3.5) Razor of the Seventh Sun :

Damage buff
25% of Physical Damage Converted to Fire Damage
25% chance to Ignite

It's a substantial damage buff. The conversion means we're 100% fire when dual wielding and with the Combustion gem we're near 100% ignite.

So now the next 3 mods:
100% increased Burning Damage if you've Ignited an Enemy Recently
Recover 1% of Maximum Life when you Ignite an Enemy
100% increased Melee Physical Damage against Ignited Enemies

are obviously insane. Plenty of facetanking and sustain in Syndicate encounters from the life gain.

Daresso's is great for all mapping but you'll want Loreweave to do serious bosses. See the Loreweave section for more info on the Eye of Innocence interactions.

Required Gear
Spoiler
or

Daresso's is great for all mapping but you'll want Loreweave For more serious content. If you have to choose one, especially on the cheap, just roll with the Eye/Mokou's combo and any 6L until you get optimal chest armor. Do not use the Daresso's with the Eye of Innocence, you will never have charges for your slam. See the Loreweave section for more info.

Leveling
Spoiler

I can update this in detail upon request.

Use whatever > sunder > tectonic slam. I switched to tectonic slam at 32 with 2 Gryphon axes once I finished the first lab. UNFLINCHING will give you some endurance charges for powered slams. after that UNYIELDING will give you charges on stun. once you get UNDENIABLE at merc lab, you can drop RT and go EO. I took UNSTOPPABLE with uber lab.

You can use Gryphon axes until 58, then you can get a pair of decent Corsair swords to use until 68 when you're fully online.

Kill all bandits.

Trees:
https://pastebin.com/pXE5J08Q
https://pastebin.com/7w1n8d1u
https://pastebin.com/z9MsYn9R
https://pastebin.com/bN6SRTeD

RT first, then all the way down to duelist for the leech (grab golem's blood too), then up to witch or through templar to get some int/res. Grab whatever you feel you need along the way, plenty of respec points if you need Diamond Skin or something. You may be short on mana (esp if you're in a tabula) until you get more damage (~58) to leech. If so, use a mana pot, take a couple extra mana leech nodes on the tree, use a praxis ring, or drop a link. Remember that any physical % leech will be reduced since you're doing mostly fire damage. Once mobs are denser and you upgrade weapons you will be fine.

Pantheons
Spoiler
Take the reduced stun chance pantheon until you have Unstoppable, then reduced DoT. Rearrange your minor pantheon based on need. Shakari and Ralakesh are good. If it's a burning ground map, use Abberath, if you suck at doing trials, Ryslatha, etc. Once you get to t15s the immune to poison boss soul is excellent.

Jungle Valley boss' soul is large boon to Soul of Arakaali and should be your goal asap. the 50% life recovery procs when immortal call goes off if you have blood rage active. This increases the life gain from each sword, giving you 2 percent of max life gained per ignite. With this and arctic armor, you can facetank quite a bit.

Helm Enchant
Spoiler

The best is 40% to damage, but it's not a big deal. Like 3 percent of our total dps, but it is something. The other enchant is 12% inc AoE, which is barely noticeable. Neither worth chasing, but if you're upgrading your helm check the damage one, they *cough* used to be cheap. You can get the same damage on a 1c Hrimnor's Resolve at level 55.

NEVERMIND, THIS EXISTS
"
sciferthesky wrote:

I have found what the enchant is and it is for tectonic slam for sure just wanted to post in case anyone else needed this info. Also it gives a flat 20% chance and doesn't take end charge to do so, rolls before the 35% chance so it will save you end charges.

So...it says "20% chance to create a Charged Slam," which would not use an endurance charge(?) to bring the chance up to 55% per hit, check 3 times per multistrike for about a 90% chance to have a charged slam. That seems...very good. It won't show up in PoB, and someone please correct me if I'm mistaken, but that seems very, very good.

Alternate Bossing set up / Loreweave & Eye of Innocence
Spoiler
Wear Eye of Innocence with a different chest piece. Loreweave is recommended. This will allow you to maintain endurance charges on bosses that are stun immune and have no adds. You may lose your amulet dps (you're not actually going to get ignited from Eye of Innocence unless you're wearing Mokou's or Sunspite boots. A single Mokou's is sufficient, cheap, and will turn on the leech and damage form the Eye), but each time you ignite an enemy (should be most hits) you proc Jugg's 25% chance to gain up to max endurance charges. It works, and fueling TS with endurance charges is the biggest DPS boost we can get. Here's my current set up:

https://pastebin.com/0Vc1feJT

and couple a quick video:
https://youtu.be/U0-GgGHPOZg
https://youtu.be/NskTdx1wcag

Jewels
Spoiler
Onslaught if you don't have it form another source. Crit chance if you haven't crit recently if you need help maintaining EO. Life. flat phys or fire with swords, attack speed while dual wielding. General fire or phys damage. Gain 4% of Physical Damage as Extra Fire Damage if you've dealt a Critical Strike Recently if you got enough crit is very good.

Flasks during uber elder:

Mapping flasks

The swords life gained on ignite + normal life leech is pretty crazy paired with the Arakaali life recovery pantheon. With enough attack speed feel almost immortal.

But what about Mathil's build?
Spoiler

This build is smoother for general mapping/delving, Mathil's does way more top end damage and is better for bossing. This build is cheaper, more defensive, faster, and can do any map mod besides ele reflect. Mathil's is crit with Abyssus and Oni, this is EO with large life gain on hit, buffed onslaught, and more life.

If you're looking for fun melee, you won't be disappointed in either build.

Looking pretty rad.
This looks really amazing, already bought the uniques and created the character, gonna level it up to maps and will keep you posted.
Really loved the concept of those swords but never knew how to use it.Great build!
Lookin juicy, does it perform well on a 5L? And would i drop added fire?

Kingfist wrote:

Yes, a 5L will get you pretty far. Combustion is preferable for the ignite. They work together though, and a 6L is a massive damage boost. When I was six linking I used just used a 5R set up in a low roll Daresso's with added fire and it was fine.
Skill tree progression for leveling if possible? Build looks really fun, just starting leveling. Any major nodes to get asap?

quick update before I go do holiday things for a few days:

Swapped Vaal double strike with Vaal AW (on a 4 link). The dmg buff from the totems is large and I wasn't calculating it correctly before. This leaves 2 sockets dangling that I'm trying a high level CWDT > Molten Shell. PoB updated.

Sidenote: Don't try to go EE with Malachai's Artifice. The phys dmg from herald of purity gets partially converted to fire from your Razors and breaks the EE.
Awesome build, I decided to reroll from my Reave/BF Champ into this, to try something new while keeping that melee feel.

Regarding spending the last few points, I have two questions.

What are your thoughts about taking Spiritual Aid and some of the minion damage nodes seeing we are that high up in the tree?

And on POB Breath of Flames nodes are good regarding damage, but is it being miscalculated?

My final two questions are why not invest into crit? And what swords do you recommend while working up to the 2x Seventh Sun's?

I am in a private league, so we have to work for it, instead of throwing down a few chaos! I was thinking 2x scavea's and utilise the avatar of fire node for full conversion still, thoughts?

Thanks!

Argoon wrote:

I think an essence of horror crafted bone helmet w/Spiritual Aid would be the best dps helm possible.

"
Argoon wrote:

Miscalculated how? A lot of the damage from those nodes is in the ignite, which we're not specifically scaling otherwise. We already have near 100% chance to ignite so that's wasted from Breath of Flames. I see an average of 1.1-1.3% DPS per point there, which is fine, but we can do better.

The Razors have low base crit. I need crit on gear/jewels just to keep EO up consistently. Crit would be a differnt build with a different weapon, I think.

I bought 2 good Screaming Eagles, q'd them up, bought 2 Apex of whatever prophecy and ran those when I was 35. Then I bought 2 cheap corsair swords at 58. Scaeva's are fine. Avatar of fire would be a substantial DPS boost until you fully convert with the Razors. Remember that any phys/mana leech won't work anymore tho.

if you're looking to drop a couple points, the AoE nodes are just vanity, especially if you have a 20+q tectonic slam.
