{3.10} Speaker for the Dead | The Mass Minion Summoner | League Starter, Leveling Guide 💀

Love the build guide, insanely good work and the build itself enjoys hyper synergies the likes I've never seen before in a minion build.

I was thinking about using Arakaali's Fang for the spider minions, which would add another 20 minions to the mix. The downside would be losing the claw, which adds a LOT to the crawler. I've seen you mention most of the clear speed comes from the spectres and phantasms, so I was wondering if there was anything we could do to run the spiders while still keeping a functioning crawler in there somewhere? 18 spiders would probably wreak havoc on a single target, wouldn't it? And they seem to be very fast in their movement and AI as well.

I'm not great at figuring out minion build dps numbers so I humbly leave that to those of you with a greater understanding of them. The idea is probably dead in the water due to the loss of dps from the crawler, but... 20 spiders! :-D

In any case, thanks again for the build, will be running it as my next character!

Im looking to start crafting the claw. But the +1 gem fossils is about 90C atm. Does this drop at certain require delve level to drop? or is it just super rare?

I don't quite like the Spirit Offering. Either I'm drunk, or upon cast it deals damage to any living being, including me. Am I alone with this issue?

I didn't know how to shrink it.

Am I on the right path regarding my gear here?
I'm working on getting a good 6L 4B2G I guess with RS, SPoKS, MD, EPS, GMPS and FA. I switched over to Frost sentinels and they pretty much rape so far :D I just haven't gotten a good 6L to put in the EPS yet.

If someone near or at lvl 100 could link me the build to take a look I would appreciate it. I'm sorry if it's already done and I've missed it.
Howdy Herc,

Thanks again for your detailed build. I'm currently level 38 in Betrayal league standard. This is my first time playing so I'm still very new to the game, I'm almost done with Act 3.

I've recently got Herald of Agony and I'm not able to "activate" it. I'm missing something to start the poison process and not sure what I should be looking for.

Currently my spell lineup is:
1) Move only
2) Desecrate to get corpses for Zombies
3) Contagion is my main damage spell
4) Summon Zombies
5) Summon Skeletons
6) Arc Lightening but I'm reading that I should probably switch to Ball Lightening
7) Summon Spectres
8) Buff swap with Summon Holy Relic, Discipline Aura, and Herald of Agony

I tried using flame dash a bit but I didn't like the jumpiness of it and prefer to run around kiting stuff while popping Contagion.

I wish there was a way to show you all my gear and stash. I haven't dabbled into trading yet but I've got mostly 3 and 4 link gear. I'm assuming I'll get better stuff after I'm done with the tutorial so I sell almost everything I can't immediately use. There's too much "Stuff" in this game to be a hoarder.

Anyhow, What should I be looking for to activate the HoA and if I'm using Contagion and Lightening as my damage spells, how should I be using Elemental Equilibrium? Hit them with Contagion first and then lightening? or vice versa?

Thanks
Build is really great but have 1 question, im only died with syndicates member, what do you change in my gear to survive this ? Belly is enough ?

Hey again thanks for all your help so far! I saw someone in chat asking about your build and helped him out to pay it forward for all the help you've given me.
He brought up a good question. He asked if he should focus on Evasion considering Acrobatics lowers Armor, ES, block chance. So I was just wondering if one should avoid ES, Armor, and block chance as much as possible and focus on evasion? Or does it not matter that much?
Loving the build still!

ok, so I saw the guy just below me link his gear so I had to do a little research to figure out how to link mine!

I'm not great at figuring out minion build dps numbers so I humbly leave that to those of you with a greater understanding of them. The idea is probably dead in the water due to the loss of dps from the crawler, but... 20 spiders! :-D

In any case, thanks again for the build, will be running it as my next character!

A couple issues about Spectral Spiders:

  • A) You must kill. As a full summoner, we don't get kills outside of Ignite degen kills being credited to us. This might be enough, but it won't be reliable to always have anywhere close to the full 20 spiders. You would need a Culling Strike corruption on the weapon, allowing Ball Lightning to grab kills for you. EDIT: Up to max Spiders are raised on a single kill, so a worm flask will be enough, even usable against bosses if you provide the corpses.

  • B) There must be corpses. Freeze shatters and automated Spirit Offerings mean corpses won't always be available. Some monster types don't leave corpses. We don't have room for Desecrate or Unearth without removing something else.

  • C) They don't follow you. This might have changed with the update. If not, it means a Spider will often not help beyond the very pack it spawned from, unless GGG gave them a massive vision radius to seek out distant packs. EDIT: GGG did both.

  • D) Limited support links. They use Viper Strike with 100% chance to poison for 8 seconds and have 25% of Physical Damage as Extra Chaos Damage. To make them shine, you would want Melee Splash, Minion Damage, etc, but they only have three sockets, two of which are occupied by Zombies and Herald of Agony. Empower won't work on them because they are not an Active Skill Gem, but Zombies really need those levels for extra life.

More minions are welcome, but they must be practical enough to justify the cost of their inclusion. You would cripple Zombies and the Agony Crawler for a temporary minion who cannot be used in boss fights and whose clear is restricted to packs near its initial spawn location. The weapon itself doesn't offer anything to the build, either. The chaos damage and poison chance are local, so they don't apply to Ball Lightning.

EDIT: Looking deeper into the Spiders, the changes were far greater than were mentioned in the patch notes. They do in fact follow, they have a massive vision radius, and max Spiders can be raised from one kill with two per corpse. So they look to be pretty strong minions. With Desecrate and a Worm flask you could summon max Spiders for bosses. Nice. But the issue of support sockets remains. I think you can definitely make it work, but it'll come at the cost of other things, rather than as an addition to the build. Drop Zombies, change Flesh Binder to CoD or PM, drop Spirit Offering/CWDT for Desecrate and Spell Cascade or maybe a Banner if using CoD ascendancy, and add a Worm flask. The price of the dagger has jumped way up in the last few days, though.

You can think of the current minion lineup as a military unit, with distinct roles performed by different minions. This lets them cover each others' weaknesses, so we aren't crippled by any particular minion's Achilles heel:

  • 1. Phantasms = Peltasts/Skirmishers. Light frontline fighters with modest range from their "javelins/slings". They protect the flanks by freely engaging targets.

  • 2. Zombies = Infantry/Cavalry. Heavy frontline fighters who rush in to lock down the enemy in melee.

  • 3. Skeletons = Assassins. Light infiltrators who appear from nowhere to deliver surgical strikes on high-value targets.

  • 4. Spectres = Archers. Softens enemy ranks from long range and makes their approach difficult. Creates an opening for other units.

  • 5. Agony Crawler = Ballista/Catapult. Massive destructive capability, but limited engagement and high maintenance.

  • 6. Holy Relic = Medic. Can patch up battlefield scrapes and delay the worst, but they are not a doctor with a sterile surgical room.

  • 7. Vaal Skeletons = Reinforcements. When times are bleak, the horn sounds the arrival of one's allies.

Good question. Faceted Fossils don't seem attached to any particular biome. If Niko's shop is any indication, then they probably don't drop until Depth 102, and are among the highest rarity fossils with a spawn weight of 10, compared to Pristine's 100 and Bound's 40. So you'll have ten times as many Pristines and four times as many Bounds per found Faceted.

As for the price, they're in demand for making +3 bows. It also has a chance to add a fossil-only +2 to Strength/Intelligence/Dexterity Gems, any of which would benefit our links.

It deals no damage. You're probably just noticing the screen shake when it casts, which normally only happens when you score a critical hit, and since it's attached to CWDT it is only casting when monsters deal damage to you (CWDT = Cast When Damage Taken Support). You can disable screen shake in your options.

Your gear looks fine enough for just starting out. Obviously off-road a bit on the Uniques, but sometimes you just have to make what you find work. I see no obvious problems aside from their low level of 30-40 when you're 75. It's time to upgrade!

I don't think Zombies benefit from +1 to Melee Gems in your shield, despite being melee. But please let me know if they are actually receiving +1 to their level, I'd love to be wrong. If they aren't, you could swap your helmet and shield setup, giving one more socket link for your Zombies/Crawler.

You don't need the Spell Damage craft, but as a temporary or shared weapon it's fine to ignore. You are missing out on a new minion damage/life craft, though.

Rampage doesn't affect minions, just so you're aware.

Your belt is very outdated! 16% resistances, 38 life, 31 strength implicit. Get a better one ASAP! They should be dropping like candy at level 75.

ok, so I saw the guy just below me link his gear so I had to do a little research to figure out how to link mine!

You know, I should have been indexing my gear each Act to serve as a reference. Here's what I currently have, all self-found, at level 39:

Thanks

Poison requires a skill that Hits. Contagion, like all Damage Over Time, does not Hit, so it cannot Poison.

Virulence stacks deplete faster the more you have, so you need a skill that can deal a lot of Hits quickly. That's why we use Ball Lightning. We can use Static Strike before then, like I am currently, because once activated it will contine hitting while you move around. Standing around casting Arc isn't worth it.

You're at a point in the game where the gap between actual spellcasters and a summoner using an unsupported spell begins to widen into a gulf. Since this is your first time playing, you may not realize the speed difference.

To illustrate, in a Level 33 zone like The Aqueduct, normal monsters have 430-680 life.

You have 14% increased damage on the tree, 12% increased Chaos damage on a jewel, and 14% increased Spell damage on your wand, for a total of 40% increased damage. Your Contagion deals 38 Chaos Damage per second, which cannot stack, linked to Void Manipulation for 28% more and Swift Affliction for 27% more. 1.4 x 1.28 x 1.27 = 2.28 multiplier x 38 base damage = 87 max DPS. It will take 5 seconds to kill the weakest monster in Aqueducts, and it will only get worse every zone afterward. For a damage skill to be worth your time to cast, it should kill the weakest monsters in less than a second.

Your time is better spent supporting your minions, who are doing the real heavy lifting. Don't worry about your spells dealing damage, just use them to poison for your Agony Crawler. Its damage is massive. Get Flame Sentinels supported with Phantasms and Lesser Multiple Projectiles. Your minions are plenty capable now.

You want to use Static Strike with Poison and Ancestral Call to bring the Agony Crawler out of its slumber. At level 38, when you can use Cast While Channeling Support, that's when you'll make the transition to Charged Dash and Ball Lightning.

Instead of Static Strike, you can also use Ball Lightning with Lesser Poison, if your links end up that way. I prefer Static Strike because it lets me continue moving forward and rapidly triggers the Holy Relic AOE. Ball Lightning is far superior against single-targets, but we don't have to worry about that very much during the campaign and we'll also lose out on the Holy Relic.

As for Flame Dash, keep it around for bypassing gaps and cliffs. It'll save you time going around to find some random log bridge or whatever.

Also, don't use Elemental Equilibrium while using the Kaltenhalt shield, because it gives cold damage.

Build is really great but have 1 question, im only died with syndicates member, what do you change in my gear to survive this ? Belly is enough ?

Syndicate is being nerfed in 3.5.0d, which should be live in a few minutes from now. Otherwise, try getting more Chaos Resistance, use an Amethyst flask, and consider changing Pantheon to Arakaali and Shakari for the Chaos Resistances. Aside from that, more life!

Oh, and that helm is adding Fire Damage to Spells, which weakens the Added Fire on your claw. And the claw is adding Cold Damage to Charged Dash, which weakens Hatred and Frost Sentinels. You probably shouldn't use EE until you can replace them both (or get a lucky annul).

Life, resistances, and Elder/Shaper affixes take way more priority. In a perfect world, stacking Evasion on gear would be dreamy, though it'd make coloring sockets a pain. Hyrri's Ire and Hinekora's Sight would put you at 60%/50% Dodge/Spell Dodge, just a few steps away from dodge cap.

Hybrid ES would be even better simply because it increases our one-shot survival and could be replenished with an ES-on-Hit Watchers Eye.

In the end, we don't adequately support any of the three defenses with our passive nodes, so their contribution will be measly even with great gear. Pure life, lots of minions, and debuffs make up our primary defenses.

So i managed to bring down uber elder, and surprisingly easier than i would think.
Simply put, moving with charge dash is straight up better than moving with shield charge. Vectoring your charge dashed against line/cone projectile and skipping them with the blink iframe is actually strong.
I changed my jewels according to what you say. The lone solar guard manage to survived, but one of the frost sentinel managed to died to shaper's beam, i guess the spectre AI wasn't good nor foolproof.
I'll try to do more run to get used to circling, some of my deathes were because of the physical void from the madness propagators and getting chilled in the wrong places. And i also failed to dodge all the volatile anomalies.

I highly recommand everyone to try this fight because it is somehow the most thrilling encounter in the game playing this build.

Anyway i clear all the objectives i wanted with this build. Grinding for a new characters and making currencies off red maps.
