Updated: I tried Channeling Skills. Why they are bad & what can be done to make them enjoyable.
" Storm burst with slower projectile and GMP is absolute boss melter. The explosion deals an absurd amount of damage. Add to it Indigon and you have an uber elder isnta killer. Especially if you use with it CWC ball lightning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR8CwBgLEd4 I played similar build this league (swapping slower projectile for ice bite while mapping and delving) and It's absurdly strong. I also tried same variation but with cwc arc. The problem is, to deal damage you need to stay in place and keep it casting. With ball lightning, you cast it one time and they travel and deal damage on itself. Last edited by Sixtysan#6617 on Oct 5, 2018, 7:33:17 AM

Just so we don't get a misunderstanding: It's perfectly possible to link two or more channelling spells with CwC and at least one non channelling spell and proc the non channelling spell with any of the channelling spells. And to be clear, several non channelling spells will be triggered sequentially in socketing order, not simultaneously. This makes cases of linking more than one channelling and one non channelling spell somewhat less useful.
Projectile Speed only increases the distance of projectiles, that do not have an infinite lifetime. All spells fall into this category, except Storm Burst, I think, but you need to keep standing still for that. I don't think scaling the range of Scorching Ray (to which I referred as SR in the place you weren't sure what I meant, for future reference) is a problem, I just don't think cast speed is the right stat for it, because it increases ramp up speed and applied stacks (until you apply 8, but the base maximum without changes to cast speed and duration is 3 and it's a skill one might want to support with Swift Affliction). Projectile speed doesn't increase projectile dps, so whatever increases the Scorching Ray length (I would be fine with AoE for instance) shouldn't increase dps either. I can't comment on whether the AoE of incinerate is adequate, but I would probably try to get at least 75% increased for mapping, 100% if possible. With a 15 unit radius increase, this might achieve a relevant size. I can't find the base radius though, so I'm unable to calculate it. This came up from a quick google search: https://youtu.be/aZLfkfeVOm8?t=43 I haven't watched it all, so I can't comment on how hard it is to reach that level of dps, but AoE wise it seems fine. There's 84% on the tree, 49% on a support gem and half the time you can get 75% from Pendulum of Destruction. Just pick what you like. You can always socket Concentrated Effect for bosses, and unlike Firestorm, the single target dps doesn't suffer from skilling AoE. In the time of writing this post I have had three build ideas with ignite, and I don't think AoE will be the limiting factor (time will, most likely; for every build I play I have ten that I don't get around to). |

" Ooooh interesting. May have to try something like that in the future. Thanks for the tip! I've only used ball lightning self-cast (with an Occultist, so not much dps boost from ascendancy) and it's pretty damn strong with slower projectiles and increased aoe (this directly impacts ball lightning dps given its mechanics). Seems fun to make it a cwc proc instead, though. We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

" You should double-check the AoE increase in PoB. When I ran the calculations for one of my builds I only got 2-3 additional hits (on top of 12 or 14 or something). This might be even lower for enemies in melee range. It should help with hitting Storm Burst explpsions though. |
