The issue I have is that I have real hard time figuring out how to scale dominating blow and minions it produces without ending bad in other end.

You attack buffs them, minions are good with gem levels and aura already so this will just be in addition to (a very nice in addition to), also the ascendancy adds damage to the character from the minions. Level with numbers and wittle them down to what you like best as you progress. Im guessing (i hope) some combination of herald and spectre minions towards the late game will be perfect. ;edit: I just wanted to add, if you are not new to them just use frenzy,srs/dom blow/smite and the herald(s) gg :)

I thought about severed in sleep, the problem is you need to kill your enemy for dom blow/herald, and the base damage is too low.
Maybe if you were using Smite, severed in sleep in your offhand would be feasible since Smite only uses main hand
