HOWTO: PoE on Linux in DX11 mode w/ SteamPlay (Proton) or Lutris

Do you mean to for instance Ctrl+Alt+left/right arrow to change workspace?

I think its comparable (while its not really the same as multiple workspaces). The 'solution' for the rendering in such case just causes that the fullscreen application (here: POE) just runs further in replacement of the background when you 'tab out' in windows. This basically means that you a) can't tab out at all if there's no other application window; and that you cant access anything (shortcuts) from the desktop (because its not shown).

Not noticed your shadow issue either. Though I have seen a few times that the lights appear to go out for a few seconds, perhaps after heavy fighting with lots of stuff going on. It comes back after a few seconds though, so not a big issues, and it doesn't go pitch black either.

Its just too low/less contrast for me, causing too much stress for my eyes to play long(er).

If you're having that many problems with Windows 7 on your hardware then it sounds like Linux isn't an option for you. You might even have better luck falling back to Win7+DX9.

That's what I actually do, as said. But I (still) hope there will be a 'good enough' way in the near future when W7 starts to be 'no valid option' anymore...

Apparently Proton is a gamechanger...

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/
Native Linux Steam is letting me install Path of Exile now whereas it always blocked it before. PoE isn't in the list of initially supported titles for Proton but it is worth a shot!

EDIT: Steam installs PoE now and it plays...mostly. My Proton isn't loading DX11 (DXVK) so the performance isn't good. Once that is ironed out then this should be a great and easy option for many people!

Thanks for the nice guide!
Hey guys,

kinda new to the new setup for PoE, used to play awhile ago with a lot of Wine tweaking.

I followed this guide

but I'm getting this error and gets stuck on the loading screen (have to force quit):
"Art/Videos/LoadingBackgroundColour.png": In
source code file: f:\buildslave\build\production
\source\windows\visual\device
\d3d11\textured3d11.cpp at line 170,
Processing file:
Error: -2003292336
Message:

Running with DXVK 0.70 though (cause I couldn't get the hack to load with Lutris, that part of the instruction wasn't clear)

Specs:
OS: Antergos
Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.18.3-arch1-1-ARCH
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 @ 4x 3.4GHz
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 7876MiB

Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks!
Don't think I'll ever understand why people use steam for anything - especially for games that are available without those chains.

Fun update process too, I hear. GGG releases a 50 MB patch, and steam users have to download about 741 GB of files.

One of the reasons I'm on Linux is to avoid all kinds of crap like that. I like to have control of my own computer. Weird, I know.

Most likely you are missing a particular set of patches from Wine (windowscodecs-32bppPRGBA to be specific). Try using one of the staging versions, it should be included in those.

Heya, thanks for the reply and helping me out!

I switched between using 3.14 staging and 3.14 esync that lutris provided as options. Former gave me a wic factory error, latter gave me the error you are looking at. I'll try again when I get back to my computer after work by compiling my own version of wine maybe.
Yeah, the staging version unfortunately is missing another patch required to run Path of Exile. See this post in the main Wine thread. I had to compile my own Wine because none of the versions offered by Lutris worked.
