3.2 Viper Strike/Reave Assassin - Poison Party Duo - Fast, 2m+ DPS, Budget

This is one of two parts of a budget friendly duo build designed by Uniting Wraeclast to be played both as a solo and a duo with few to no changes. All of our builds are quite capable of playing solo with a minimum of 400k realistic dps to shaper*, although when they are paired together their strength multiplies through the power of synergy. We aim to stay to a strict build budget but show premium scaling items. Builds are mainly designed for softcore leagues but can very easily be adapted to hardcore. Please see the below link for a full list of our builds currently available as well as what we have in the works for you.

*400k realistic dps based on no flasks, realistic setting, and only with buffs that have near 100% shaper uptime. This may require non budget items for some builds.

This build is currently in progress, this post will be updated with actual in-game gear and information as I progress.

I HAVE LOTS OF UPDATES TO MAKE TO THIS STILL!

Counterpart Quill Rain Poison Trickster

INTRODUCTION

This is the Viper Strike/Reave Assassin part of the Poison Party duo build.

I have no friends, can this be played solo? Absolutely yes! While designed to synergize with its counterpart build this is more then capable of being played solo.

Isn't poison garbage since GGG nerfed it? Not anymore! With the updates to the passive tree and the 3.2 Ascendancy update Poison can extremely powerful.

T8 Tropical Island

OVERVIEW

Pros:

+ Disgusting single target damage (2m+ realistic Shaper DPS)
+ Extremely mobile and fast
+ Poison allows you to hit and run scary bosses. 2-3 seconds of DPS is enough to kill most things in the game over the next 10 seconds.

Cons:

- Low life pool for melee

Core Uniques For Partner Build

LEVELING TREES

Spoiler
Passive Tree (30 Passives)
Early on we want to pick up all the life nodes that are close.

Passive Tree (60 Passives)
Next we start to pick up some damage while flushing out some of the travel nodes.

Passive Tree (90 Passives)
At this point we've picked up most of the life and critical damage nodes. All that's left is Conduit, mana reservation (unneeded until you have +1 curse), and a few other nodes.

GEAR

Spoiler

This section will be updated with my actual in game gear. Refer to the "Recommended Uniques" section above for uniques.

I'm getting fairly close to my optimal gear setup. I mainly just need a Lycosidae, +1 curse amulet, and better rolls of the same stuff on items.

For the rest of your gear you want to focus mainly on Life and Resistances. Flat Physical and Crit Multiplier are luxury stats for big DPS.

LEVELING

Spoiler
If this is your very first character of the league level as Frost Blades and switch into Reave when it feels comfortable. This is usually around lv50+ with a 4-link.

If this isn't your first character I strongly recommend you switch to Sunder at lv12 and use that to level until ~50 when you should start taking some of the claw nodes and switch to using Reave.

SYNERGY DETAILS (in progress)

Spoiler
The duo synergy is more about scaling both builds with the same curses, conduit, poison stacking, and covering each-others weak points. This build has average clear speed solo but Ice Shot + Chain is very strong AOE. Quill Rain Barrage is mediocre single target without huge investment and Viper Strike absolutely destroys bosses. This guy is very close melee and keeps most of the damage away from the ranged character, and for anything melee struggles to deal with the ranged character can clean up for them

FAQ (in progress)

Spoiler
Can I use X item or take X passive? Yes, this is a guide not a dictatorship. Please mold the concepts in this guide to best fit your character and play-style.

I thought you said this was "budget friendly" but you are saying to use a 6L Dendrobate and Lycosidae, what gives? These are best in slot items for the build, not requirements. The build functions perfectly well with a 5L and off-hand stat stick.

Can we contact you in-game or through messages? Please keep all questions to our forum posts. We check them frequently and will answer all in the threads. I'm happy to help you but it's impossible to play the game while being spammed by questions (most of which are probably answered in this post already).

THE END

Thank you for taking the time to look through our build guide. If you like what you see you can check the link below for other duo builds we’ve made. We will update the guides as we play and hopefully have the time to keep our videos updated as well. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated as well. Please keep all questions/comments to this post and do not message us in-game!

I see no skill tree links :(
You can find them under the section Skill tree details.

There are no links and half of the things in general are empty. I dont know if this is a bug for me or just very incomplete guide :D

Anyway back on topic, how do you AOE with Viper Strike? Or you use Reave for aoe and VS for single target, also which gems are best to link with? Void, poison, attack speed, I dont know I'm new :( )

Fairly incomplete! I wanted to post what I had together but I haven't had time to go back up fill in that stuff yet.

Use Reave for basically everything until you get to really high tier maps then you can swap on Viper Strike for the bosses for single target. Support gems are the same for both skills so it's just a single gem swap.

Reave/Viper Strike
Multistrike
Melee Physical Damage
Added Chaos Damage
Unbound Ailments
Vile Toxins

Neat. Thanks.
I guess I need to finish act 4 to get a cpl of those gems. Then added chaos one I have no idea how to get :P

I've been using frozen blades or frost blades? w/e its called instead of reave atm since its just feeling way more effective.

I don't know if the reave/poison stuff becomes stronger for higher level content or how that works but at the moment FB has been doing much more work, maybe due to lack of multistrike I dno.
Added Chaos is a drop-only gem. You'll have to purchase one from another player.

Frost Blades is waaaay better for leveling until you're much higher level (50+) and have at least a 4-link. Later on Reave is much much stronger.

If this is your very first character of the league level as Frost Blades and switch into Reave and use that to level the whole way.

If this isn't your first character I strongly recommend you switch to Sunder at lv12 and use that to level until ~50 when you should start taking some of the claw nodes and switch to using Reave.

I already took a bunch of claw nodes lol. I dont know which nodes i should be rushing
Hey bud If you can help me out a little bit here with a few things I would appreciate it.

- What Movement and Defensive gem setups are you using?
- Without DUO synergy what would you change in the build for soloish play?
- Would you be able to make a skill tree at level 60 or something like that so I can see which nodes are more important before late game

On a 5 link only which gem do you cut?

Last edited by Chalfari on Mar 22, 2018, 8:09:24 AM
Early claw nodes are just fine as long as you have decent claws to use!

- All my skills are in the "Links and Gems" section.

- I put them in order of strength so you want to use:
Reave/Viper Strike
Multistrike
Melee Physical Damage
Added Chaos Damage
Unbound Ailments

- Guide has been updated with lv30/60/90 skill trees. They are just very general guidelines so don't worry about it too much if what you've taken isn't what I suggested!

For this build the differences between solo and duo play are basically nothing. It takes slightly longer to clear maps without the Ice Shot + Chain AOE but that's about it.
