I think targeted boss grinds (i.e. confirmed drop from a boss at some fairly low chance) are the most palatable intersection of ARPG (where drops are almost always random to preserve the thrill of 'any spin could be a winner folks') and MMORPG (where predictable repetition is rewarded with guaranteed results). It's good if you want a bit of both sensations: the gamble and the grind. The gamble goes from 'it could be any spin' to 'will it be this time?' and the grind goes from 'once I finish this dungeon I'm walking away with some sweet, sweet loot' to 'one more spin of the wheel then'.

PoE is hardly the first ARPG to do it but it's the first to provide one at pretty much the lowest level possible. The whole thing reminds me of those contests you might see in a mall where you can enter a raffle or somesuch to win a car on display. It's almost never THAT great of a car, not compared to what you could buy if you won the lottery or had a really crazy-good streak at the races or a casino, but there it is for pretty much any passer-by to have a shot at.

With the exception, of course, that at no point in this mall stroll are passers-by told that if they walk around the empty space enough times the car will manifest. I always lamented that there was no way to signpost any of it -- that's why I wanted there to be a chance that so-called uber hillock could spawn *even on a person's first run*. Then they'd see this monstrous game-ender, tell someone about it, but of course everyone else would be like 'dude u high that didn't happen' BUT then someone else would do it on stream or get a screenshot, and then...then people would know hang on, there's a chance of this thing spawning...if we just play Twilight Strand enough...

Sadly GGG weren't willing to commit to that, probably because a) it might scare off a potential future Ruler (lol), and b) bots would have a field day, probably.

Still, that's how it should have been done. That way you could have scored OG at any point during the grind, just at a very...very....very......very low chance for the first 4-5 levels.

Oni Goroshi is an awesome sword that comes after one of the best fights in the game. I certainly hope GGG finds a way to keep it alive come November and POE2.

Gem with sockets, weapon trees and improved dps for unique weapons can all play a part in its rebirth.

Haven't farmed her in a while.
I guess a six link from the start is still good to get you into maps and with a crucible tree on her... who knows what crazy results you can get.

Won't be in the new campaign at all...unless GGG find a way to recreate the grind in a whole new setting. Possible. But even then there would be no voice lines for the new 7 act campaign. I suppose GGG could write and record new lines but that's several thousands of dollars worth that really serves them no purpose. That and I doubt anyone at GGG cares enough to get the writing even close to my style. Although I would be amused to see what whatsisface who did the Betrayal dialogue might conjure.

Of course you can always just keep doing what you do now to get the sword. Assuming GGG don't remove it as part of the 4.0 overhaul.

I would be lying if I said I gave much of a shit either way. It's all history for me now. All four versions of the sword had significant impact and it was a sound investment in that respect. I loved how we all came together to solve Rhys' riddles to craft Scorned and Unleashed. And how many Hillocks y'all murdered in that first weekend of the grind for the final form.
