Why don`t you take Phase Acrobatics?

I'm planning to do something like this in the 1 month Flashback League. However I was thinking about maybe playing a Scion Spectral Throw build with Slayer/Raider.

Has anyone tried that with this build?

@OP - great guide! Will probably use this as my league start for Flashback, just seems like a fun and unique style.

@ Anyone with mana issues while leveling and currency to spend and already turned off HoA - Thief's Torment, Praxis or jewelry with the "Elreon" mod will help a lot. Praxis is probably the cheapest/most readily available early in the league, but once you level your Elreon up a few levels he'll start selling you rings and ammys with a mod that reduces mana costs.

Noticed earlier in the thread there were a ton of questions from newer players about Cast When Damage Taken (CWDT) setups and gem levels. Figured this was worth posting now with Flashback coming soon, as I was a n00b once too and learned by playing.

First off - read the gems! I didn't always read the gems but I learned a lot by doing so. Especially CWDT, since its not the same as the other conditional lvl38 "Cast" gems and just in general it can be weird. Let's take the most commonly used CWDT setup in the game: CWDT-Immortal Call. CWDT at level 1 will trigger when you take 528 damage, and trigger sequentially all gems that are linked and are level 38 and below (because that's what the gem says it does). With respect to Immortal Call, a level 1 CWDT can trigger a level 1, 2 or 3 Immortal Call (because that requires level 34, 36 or 38 respectively). A level 2 CWDT can trigger a level 1, 2, 3 or 4 Immortal Call, and so on and so forth. Increased Duration can be leveled all the way to level 20, because it's only supporting Immortal Call and isn't being cast itself. A level 1 CWDT can support a level 5 Enfeeble but not a level 6 (because it requires level 36 and level 39).

If a gem is linked to CWDT and is castable by CWDT (meaning its a spell and at or below the right level) then when you put it on the skill bar, it will be greyed out and say it cannot be cast. If you over-level it, you'll know because the skill will become castable. There is a vendor recipe you can use to de-level a gem, but for something like a CWDT(1)-IC(3) it's cheaper and easier to just buy a new gem.

Any recommendations for defeating Shaper? I ripped a shaper set trying to kill him with the setup from the guide. Guardians weren't too bad (except my first phoenix map was ele weak and I wasn't paying attention!). I'm pretty sure my gear is fine. Do I just need to get good?

Yes your gear is fine. You shouldn't have problems with any boss.
I take it that you don't know the fight. That's very important. You need to know what to do in every situation because there's no time to think. You should see videos of the fight to learn these things. There are plenty of them on youtube and twitch.
In general hole management is crucial. Don't let them spawn in the center. Avoid the balls. DPS him while he's using the beam (use flasks and totem) and while he's hitting you. And of course avoid the slam. A Sapphire flask helps.

P.S. I see you have a Mjolner too. I loved that build (slightly different, as an Inquisitor) back in the good old days of legacy Mjolner. I'm still waiting for GGG to remove that awful cooldown on it that was supposedly placed because of performance issues.

I upgraded my flasks, boots, amulet, and a ring like you had suggested and it made a huge difference. Also managed to find a decent jewel, but still need to work on the +life on my jewels. And as for my belt, I thought it was decent as it has 110+ life and good resists and don't really want to spend what people want for a good stygian vise right now. Still working on upgrading my other ring, but haven't been able to find anything decent yet. And once again, Thank you for the detailed guide.

No need to go for a stygian vise. For 50c you can get a belt with 130+ life and 100+ res. This will allow you to dump the two stone ring.

Ok, thank you. I'll look into a better leather belt, and then hopefully ill be able to go for a good steel ring to replace my current 2stone ring, even though my current steel ring is shit

Thanks for the guide, as a total n00b who hasn't played much of anything since D2 I absolutely love this build. I realise I haven't gotten very high level yet but only a few hours of game play thus far, and spending more time figuring the game out than anything at this point.
