Anyone here done this with just one poets pen? When did the character brick? Rerolled this on SSF after one poets and doing quite fine at level 41.

70-80K is reasonably achievable damage per ball, and it can definitely go way higher if you manage to squeeze in a Xoph's Heart since it gives a ton of damage. A well rolled Shaper Pen amulet will also amplify our damage quite a bit. We can put out 16 balls a second(4 balls per trigger * 4 casts per second) which means that 1,1-1,3m Shaper DPS is achievable. 1,7m was calculated pre-enchant nerf and I've changed it now to reflect new numbers. But 1,7M is still achievable with really good gear, but you're going to need to stack CDR on boots and belt to reach that amount on top of squeezing in an additional unique(Xoph's Heart) which is going to require really good supportive gear to fill resist gaps.

Looking at your character, you're still missing Thoratseeker and 2x Crit multi nodes next to Doom cast and still missing Trickery. Your jewels aren't very good, your rings aren't very good(Opal rings crafted with Essence of Anger are ideal). Your amulet could also need some love, Life > Crit Multi /> Fire/Spell Damage > Crit Strike chance is the priority of affixes I would recommend. You're also missing the helmet enchant, the +1 ball is a 33% damage multiplier and is definitely worth getting asap.

You have no damage flasks. Atziri's Promise, Diamond Flask and Wise Oak(Make sure your fire res is your highest res) is what I would strongly recommend you use as they amplify your damage greatly.

EDIT: You can also not forget that the nature of Volatile Dead allows us to stack several seconds worth of DPS against bosses that have a wind up time, such as Shaper. Raising our average damage per second significantly and giving us tremendous burst potential.

If you only have one Poet's Pen and you're SSF with the ability to get another, I would strongly recommend that you find another build and don't follow this guide. As many of the required items are going to be near impossible to get in SSF without tremendous luck.

You can, but you would also need to drop Atziri's Promise though. It'd save a flask slot but be a bit lower DPS but more life.

Thanks for posting this build. I've been lurking this thread since day 1. I got lucky and saw it early and had the key items.

I'm just about able to afford some Atz's Acuity, but I'm having trouble fitting it in because of the shaper ring mod Assassin's hit is also really expensive to replace from Oskarm. So unless I have like 20ex it appears to be a dps drop. I was attempting to create some rings in pob to test it.

I haven't been able to reliably get t15 maps so I was wondering how much of a help this would be just as a defensive item and take the dps hit. Maybe worth it to buy and resell if I don't think its needed?

Sorry for the forum post not having items or pictures, I'm still a noob.

Got my first Poet's Pen at lvl 68. I'm up to 18k DPS :D Fresh toon on a fresh league, it's relatively achievable. Anyone attempting to get this build running with a blank slate like I did I have a few words of advice:

1) Level passives exactly as in tree
2) Build for self-cast on gear, 4L (Volatile Dead, Conc Effect, Elemental Focus, Faster Casting)
3) You can pick up Nycta's Lantern + The Consuming Dark or 2x Abberath's Horn which should see you into lvl 65'ish with relative ease
4) You DONT NEED JEWELERS. That's a big deal. 90 Jewelers will net you 10 chaos. Feel free to cash in on some of these orbs you won't be needing in bulk as you would with builds that require 6L/etc. I also recommend selling your silver coins. You'll get them back.
5.) Once you can get your uncorrupted Poet's Pen, socket up Volatile Undead get your 4L frenzy ready and goto town.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to try this build starting at lvl 1 with 0 currency to their name in current league. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Acuities are definitely worth getting, double leech rate is massive for our defense. Assassin's Mark isn't required anymore, a lot of people have opted to not use it anymore and run PCoC in Unearth since we don't need GMP+LMP anymore.

In my opinion, Acuities are mandatory if you want to do difficult red maps. Boosting your life pool as much as possible is also mandatory, since more life = more life able to be leeched.

Get it on gear, grab a +30 Dexterity node if you need more.
