... More seriously; it has some issues with spammability. Breaking fortify SPECIFICALLY with it would be dumb, however; it works with Whirling Blades and Leap Slam, and a couple leagues ago it was Whirling Blades that was in the EXACT same spot. All that really needs is some better balance, such as perhaps elimination of the rapid "shield-charge in place" option. Even with as good as it is, it's clear that no one's relying strictly on it, so I'd recommend a minimum total animation time; e.g, it'd take just as long as to charge in place as to charge, say, 3-4 meters. Other fixes are coming in map design, with more reliance on barriers that ground-based movement can't overcome; that's what they did to Promenade (which is just as fast as before if you use lightning warp, leap slam, or blink arrow) and are trying to spread this. WB wasn't in the same spot, because it doesnt scale with movement speed. While it is quick it also requires more unique circumstances to work as well. In terms of leap slam, idk I guess, but its not the same as the annoying shield charge shit.

Heh, Fortify should have always been halved when moving via a movement skill at least, or past 100% increased movement speed - if you're Speedy Gonzales, you're going to be as squishy as him - not to mention that Fortify should have had an interaction with armour and evasion/ES equipment should have presented a diminishing returns regarding Fortify...
Alas, a rework of movement skill to bring them in line felt as mandatory as the QotF rework from some time, because if they're supposed to scale their speed via actions instead of movement, they should have had a cap or a cooldown that kept their upkeep at a more tactical/strategical level instead of the current mindless spam... PSS: Our almighty TencentGGG overlords are very scrupulous regarding criticizing their abilities to take proper decisions and consider everything "needlessly harsh and condescending"...

fortify was such a huge failure. and then they decided to seesaw shield charge from being the butt of many jokes into a reason why a shield should be used most of the time.
seriously, if you use a shield, is there any situation whatsoever that you dont want to use shield charge ? quick litmus to test how a game concept is faulty because there is only one answer to that question: no. |

" People would still find "workarounds" until GGG delete Fortify from the game. Players used to "easy mode". If GGG would implement changes you propose - there would start Juggernaut meta. After the nerf - Cleave and Overwhelming Odds unique jewel (iirc that one gives Fortify on Cleave). Nerf? Next one would be Vigilant Strike with corresponding unique threshold jewel. And such. And then riot =) Players are already spoiled enough and GGG dug their own grave here... Any "balance change" would backfire a lot. Remember, suffering is convenient.

"there wouldn't be jugg meta because majority of playerbase are sc players and value clearspeed far more than bonus from fortify. fortify is just something that gets slapped on a moveskill. moveskill is like more than half of poe game atm. if you think how much mobility a shield charge gives you, it's pretty much a vital skill in clearspeed meta. fortify is not. |
