Vaal grace is also a good option. I like Vaal haste and usually end up running two of them later on. Vaal cyclone is pretty hilarious to use as well.

Links are all listed under the “skill gem” section. As for end game rings: opals. Two opals with resists, life, WED and flat physical. Dream world they would have high intellect on them but that’s going to be expensive to craft and super expensive to buy. Under the 3.0 gear used for shaper you can see the two I crafted in harbinger.
if i use ele focus , my totem can freeze mob, so i will do more dps because of curse?

You don’t need things fozen for frostbite to give elemental pen just using cold damage is enough. Ele focus and frostbite still work fine together your cyclone just won’t freeze/chill but totem linked with any supports that give freeze will still freeze things. If you have a ele focus setup you can switch ele focus out for ele prolif while clearing. Then your freeze/chill/ignites will spread to everything. Then just pop it back in for boss.

If you are using ele focus + hypo you won’t get hypo bonus unless totem is chill/freezing things. Or if using The pandemonius with its chill proc when we get hit.

It looks like you are using the ele focus/inc area, conc setup so yeah you can’t freeze anything with cyclone but using totem-hypo-EDwA-ele prolif will give you a lot of freeze when totem is down and cyclone will be doing massive cold damage just no elemental statuses.

Edit: the one thing about the ele focus/conc setup is it will devour you mana. I cannot look at passive trees while on vacation but that setup was the main reason for tireless wheel and spirit void.

Any thoughts I can get from you as to what I should be looking at to improve my survive-ability and/or damage. Been loving the build as it's pretty easy to use. Friend of mine has been helping me out, but thought i'd get your opinion on next steps.

Giant wall of text warning.

Overall, a great start and your friend definitely hooked you up. With the below tweaking, you should have no issues carrying to end-game. The major notes are optimization from the guide, flask usage, and making sure to weave in Fortify. Also, make sure you are checking your map mods. No leech is near impossible and ele reflect is only possible with slight alterations. But then some crazy mods will 1-shot you all day until better geared. Like 100% extra dmg to all elements, unlucky dodge, extra dmg, and extra crit is doable, but may sting a bit.

Passives - Looks fine. More levels will add more HP and jewel slots to add even more HP and dmg. You can trade 8% HP for similar HP plus 1-2 dmg mods with Jewel slot.
Jewels - Fertile Mind is fine. Morbid sight could have some better dmg mods. Empyrean Vessel only has atk speed and resists. You should be able to get more resists on other slots, so look into a replace jewel here.
Belt - Fortify belt preferred, imo, with high HP and resists or dmg rolls. Abyss belts are also fairly cheap as well and more dmg rolls from socket.
Flasks - This one is huge. Getting last ascendancy will give you elemental immune and prevent burning, freezing, etc which you can take off flasks. If you are not close to ascendancy, you can reroll your Frenzy charges from ascendancy to get that or you will want to pick up flasks with removal for freezing and bleeding (not immune unless you get Death's Door) at bare minimum. If you have a moving bleed or stack up that other bleed, you will hurt yourself faster than you can leech back. Or if you are frozen, you can't leech the damage back.. so most likely RIP. I usually do freezing immune with HP flask and bleed immune with a Sulphur flask (constantly up), but personal preference. I also went with more movement speed flask and total of 3 DPS flask: Sulphur, Atziri's, and Lion's Roar. There are lots of defensive flasks you go as well for extra dodge or dmg reduction. But you should no longer need 1 HP flask, the mana flask, and Bismuth, so 3 wasted flasks and the other 2 could have better rolls.
Boots - You want to keep CWDT at level 1 so it doesn't take much damage to proc. That also means that the gems that it casts must also be level 38 or lower.
Gloves - 4th link blue adds Enlighten which will recover 4, 8, or even 12% of your mana reserved back. Takes awhile to level up one, but get it started now rather than later.
Helm - Devoto's adds quite a bit with atk speed and movement speed. You can get one with extra dmg with Protector up for 20-40 chaos or by itself for 3 chaos. You will want to make up those resists on belt.
Chest - Change to Carcass Jack will add the HP back from helm plus a bit of resists. You'll lose some damage and speed, but gain range and you're not using the +2 to movement gems in Bronn's. You can also look into getting the Warchief totem set-up so you can mass freeze stuff around the totem.
Rings - If you or your friend has more currency sitting around, you can optimize your rings a bit more with higher HP, resists, or dmg mods like flat phys and WED.
Second weapon set - Get a 6-socket weapon or 2 3-socket to dual wield to start leveling secondary gems on second weapon set. You can either get stuff now that is close to 20% and get them to 20/20 to corrupt for possibly 21/20 or 20/23. I'm leveling 6 extra Cyclones that are not far from hitting 20/20 and hopefully at least 1 will hit 21/20 and I can sell the rest. I managed to get 2 21/20 WED last night and trying to sell the spare to put towards Disfavour.

Thank you for the feedback; i've been scolded countless times about my flasks... I'll use this as the pushing point to finally change them up. Been self-finding all my rings, but i'll check to see what else might be available to steal off him. I didn't realize about the CWDT *face palm* ; I'll look at reworking that. The hardest part right now is balancing it so I continue to have maximum resist.

Belt
I'll look to purchase a fortify belt with some resist / life if possible

Passive
What nodes are you referring to that i can change to give life / damage / jewel slot?

Gloves
I'll work on getting an enlightening jewel purchased and leveled up

Helm
Once I am able to rebalance my resist, I will look for a Devoto

Thank you again for the feedback. Has there been any clear update as to whether this build is better with VP or not?
Yea, dying to bleed or freeze is extremely annoying until you get means to remove it. Once you have those flasks to remove it and learn to use it, it should cut back those deaths quite a bit. I think I died once last night not paying attention to movement bleed and didn't pop bleed flask.

Belt:
http://poe.trade/search/dooinanokohote

90 HP with Fortify are going for 2-10+ chaos. Some have dmg mods and/or resists and can craft extra resists (learn prefix vs suffix). Just depends on what time you search, but 90+ HP vs 39 HP will add like 150 HP and constant Fortify means 20% dmg reduction without weaving in Leap Slams.

Passives:
It is up to you. You can remove a 5% HP on the Bloodless Wheel and 4% HP & 3% resists around Barbarism to get the socket and closer to Constitution. You can also trade in Hatchet Master and another 5% HP to finish getting to Constitution (loss of damage, but gain a good chunk of HP). Then when you start leveling up more, finish getting more HP or get DPS nodes back or add jewels for mix of HP and dmg.

No clear choice yet. With the new jewels and redoing passives, you can get quite a bit of constant HP regen. But for end game content, the extra life leech from VP is pretty big too. There is a mix of people with either VP and no VP and both seem to be doing fine. I'm intentionally playing with VP to see its rework in action and it is definitely slightly worse than before, but still manageable. I need to bolster my HP more to up my leech rate, but I like speed clearing with high dmg :/
