A Four-year Release Retrospective
Is this a story how poe became casual?

Long life to PoE :)

POE is Four years old, cheer!
If POE wants to last longer, it is time for the admin to be open minded. |

Man, only 4 years? I feel like I've been playing this game forever.

Great writeup, been a pleasure playing what you guys put your heart and soul into for all these years! Though there are issues that are nagging for years, the influx of new content has been greatly appreciated and your effort to work with and please this community while giving life to your vision of how an ARPG game should be done has been outstanding.
I have giving many hours of my life to playing this masterpiece and will continue to do so. Have a great release birthday and looking forward to the next big thing hitting in december! Especially thank you Chris and Jonathan, for creating this game and company despite all the trends in the gaming industry. GGG and Crate Entertainment give me hope for the industry that standards, ethics and morals will still have a meaning and creating a great game is at least equally important to making the most profit. |

WOW, this was SO awesome to read, so AWESOME!! I hope you won't forget to link to this post next year, so we can read it again! I'm glad I could be here and play the game for these 4 years :)
The Bother progress: 11%
You don't even imagine how much harm you've caused. I'm not sure I'll live long enough to finish "The Bother". You're one of my murderers. You will never get my forgiveness unless you make up for what you've done. |

I think part of what made (and continues to make) PoE such a great game is the engagement GGG has with their community. I think it gives the players a sense that they're just as much a part of the game's development and growth.
It's rare to find that anywhere else. Most games these days are shallow, sub-par franchises that have to spend 100 million in marketing to generate enough week 1 sales to turn a profit. Publishers up-sell you on DLC content, digital deluxe and pre-order bonuses for a game they're not going to actively support. Destiny 2 is a great recent example of this but you could look to any title published by Activision, EA or Ubisoft. It's a formula that has made them a lot of money and is so commonplace that gamers don't even notice how egregious it is anymore. The flip side is the indy developer who releases "Early Access" titles on Steam which NEVER drop that status. Again, players are left with an incomplete experience with the devs working on the game only in their free time and no real commitment since they've been paid upfront. The sharing of ideas. Direct response to the community. Transparency. Consistently delivering updates. These are all simple things yet impossible to find elsewhere. That is what this community feels on one level or another. We buy MTX and supporter packs not because GGG exploits us for money but because we willingly want to support something that we're unable to get from any other developer. Big thanks to Bex, Chris and all of GGG who are as passionate about their game as those who play it. You're more than just another game developer and PoE is more than just an ARPG. |

Way to go GGG.
The evolution of the game has always been 2 feet forward, 1 foot backward and no foot into real end game to me. I have been disapointed many times but in the other hand your game grows stronger while the gaming industry does shit. You got my thumbs up and my faith!
