Major Boss Balance Issue ---- Combat/Damage Log ---- Feature Request

Reading topics like these always has me scratching my head when players say this game is designed more for hardcore then softcore.

To me the archaic notification systems, clunky UI, lag/desync stuff makes it seems like this game is designed for softcore.

Hardcore seems to be an afterthought.

Anyway sorry for your character loss, mate.

Honestly, this would be gr8.

I too would greatly cheer at the implementation of a combat log.

If load balancing is an issue regarding sending data to the users, this could, as previously suggested, only be sent on player death, or upon asynchronous request by the player (even if not displayed in game, then download a file to game folder or something), receiving a log of the current session (or zone, or last hour, whichever would be most feasible in a way that made sense).

I too have died on several occasions without having any clue as to what killed me. Often enough I think I should record gameplay so I can check my deaths, but it really shouldn't require all that work on our part to check this sort of thing.

Yes. Those situations are mostly created by bug or bad design. A comment situation when you face shaper and did, you may be hit by a invisible ball immediately once you go inside and die again. As for bad design, I think most PoE players have been killed by a normal attack of a rare monster even if you have reasonable defense and EHP. Massive attack should have long animation while attack with short animation should be weak. But seem like GGG loves reversing it.

I learned to just do nothing for a few secs after porting back into a bossroom via portal the hard way. Invisible Vaalslams really hurt.
+1, it'd really be nice to have.

This game is targeted at a hardcore audience.
But "hardcore" in this context doesn't mean "1 life only", it means the game is not "n00bfriendly" by design.
Read "hardcore" as "need to put a lot of time in a game, it has a steep learning curve and no tutorials teaching mechanics or answering any questions".

Must be horrible to do any testing in this game, unless they have a special testing build that logs things.

And yes, I suspect the Hardcore part of the design is referring to the difficulty of the UI, not the difficulty of the game.

Sadly, when things like this happen, Hardcore just feels frustrating and pointless. Don't get me wrong, I only play this game on hardcore because softcore just doesn't appeal to me, but dying to stupid bugs (just died to one myself yesterday, character getting stuck after freeze effect being removed by flask) is no fun at all.

As to the "need to put a lot of time in the game", this is true and I'm overall fine with it, but some people e.g. myself don't have a lot of free time. And when we choose to use our free time in the game we love only to get weeks of work deleted in front of our eyes to a situation you have zero control over... Takes me back to when I quit playing the game when desynch was a major issue in POE. If the game has a hardcore mode, it should be fit to play in this fashion. If someone can just randomly die for no fault of his own, the game just feels stupid.

Maybe GGG doesn't want to put a log in the game so the players can't see most of the dumb problems this game still has.

Definitely signing up for this.

I have spoken of this on several occasions. The random unknown deaths really only adds to frustration. Unlike the top few players that dictates how GGG should develop the game, most of us do no record our playing, and can't play back events endlessly until we figure out what went wrong.
