[3.0] Explosive Arrow - Berseker / Ascendant (work in progress)

"
My 2.6 EA builds are pretty much dead. However, EA is still a fine skill!

This project is currently a work in progress. Instead of the burning, we keep our focus on the Bang! Now... this in not a HC build at all. The details, including calculations, gear and gem specs are provided in the links. Reflect can become a problem really easily for the Berserker. Max output can be 1.5 million with single 5 stacked explosion with all buffs on a regular boss.

If you need to learn about EA mechanics please check my old thread here. Pretty much everything you need to know it's explained in detail. For more, there's the forum right here.

Ascendant: https://pastebin.com/qDsJz3zz

>>> Berserker:

In the video I tried to push MOM and mana leech. I played poorly on purpose. In reality this is a build, that needs a lot of manual kiting and avoiding damage. When doing so, mana should not be a big concern. I am also testing life leech as a mitigation for reflect. T14 Maze.

Another test I made with a different setup. This time I'm using Carcass Jack and Hrimnor's resolve for the helmet. I try to kite better as well. T15 Underground river.

>>> Ascendant:

Video playlist for the Ascendant. Featuring Hall of the Grandmasters, Shapper & company.

Looks like the Hall of Grandmasters can still be "razed to the ground". The changes to EA are not all bad. In fact on paper it looks just as good as it was in 2.6. ;)

Mana can be a problem for the Berserker. Especially if we get surrounded or against single targets or PVP. To mitigate, we can use an Eternal mana flask. Alternatively we can also use a Blood magic gem and use the Ryslatha's Pantheon power.

>>> Thanks to:

  • F4F_Lucifer for sharing your build and helping me with optimization, as well as being an awesome friend and mentor.

I believe I have a few questions regarding the new tree compared to pre 3.0 BM builds I'm familiar with. Most notably is that pre-3.0 Things like Catalyse or Belt/quiver Mods for Elemental damage weren't used. The wording of Catalyse is the same as the reworked Elemental Damage support (Elemental damage with attacks, Attacks specifically NOT Weapons)

Since you take Catalyse and have Elemental Damage mods on Rares am I correctly assuming that now EA's Explosion is considered, for scaling purposes, as part of the 'attack'(as with Lit arrows additional hits) rather than a secondary effect (similar to heralds)? And if so Might not Elemental Damage be a contender for 5th or 6th Support slot? (At the very least it should outperform Slower Proj or Less Duration. Assuming GMP-Pen and Chance to Ignite are the Core Conc Effect and Ele Damage (Empower over GMP)!~seems to be the highest More damage available for Single target Assuming the Colors aren't an issue (Weapon swap of having both Quil and Skin 6L)

And secondly The video showcasing mana leech working is with what looks like a pretty finished build: Do you know when in the leveling process EA becomes Tenable as a primary skill or is that still unexplored territory? EA is a fast milti-hitting skill Perhaps 3 mana per hit Jewel(s) Could work as an early Stopgap Before Spectrum and Ascendant nodes take over?

Finally I see Berzerker is chosen for it's prowess Leeching like a Hot/Iron/Cold blooded Vampire - But do you think Scion/Elementalist/Chieftan? Or the Old Fortify sporting Duelist Are workable or Is this a case where the Huge More damage, the absurdly high leech values and the Healthy convenient starting pathing (not the most convenient getting VP, Would you aim for Celestial Judgement or Further in Duelist Proj/Life nodes If Acuity is an option?)
i remember the old times when i was farming deathless HoGM with this build, waiting to see if it works

I try to scale explosions, since the burn is now really hard to scale. But the explosions on the other hand got a considerable buff! Elemental damage with attacks gem is now one of the primary sources of damage for this build. Conc effect might be only good for bosses. I'm not yet sure at this point as I'm still testing. I barely got my 3rd Grand spectrum yesterday.

For leveling I think it's still best to do Sunder for Marauder or 2x Flameblast totems (or similar) for the Scion. I can't say when it's safe to switch but I think ea gem lvl 17 should be ok. Of course the higher the better. I don't think the mana on hit would help all that much, since EA is so expensive, but you can use Spirited response jewels with rallying cry to help if it's needed.

The video was just a repecked 2.6 character. So not at all finished, but since then I almost completed it. Will test in the following days.

I would only be comfortable with the Berserker and Scion at this point. The tree has changed in 3.0 we need to get more nodes and blood magic is kinda out of the way. But mana is a big problem for EA and these two Ascendancies are the only ones that can really sustain mana. Well... You could also do Hierophant but the ascendancy is quite bad overall and Trixter might be a contender, but Scion is superior. If Acuity is an option, then definitely can do either Celestial Judgement or Further in Duelist area. You could also take 2x curse and the fire nodes on top of the tree. That would need to be planed ahead tho. But honestly the VP path is quite efficient, since we get up to 3 jewels and life nodes along the way.

That is definitely doable, my friend can do it with ease on his Scion. I'll try to get him make a video / share the build. :)

Been running the Ascendant version in HOG. It's fine for clearing but the two projectiles make it very fiddly to hit the entire row.

Gotta get that quillrain +1 :/

Edit:
Okay I got the +1 quill rain and this is 100% better (well, 50%)

Is there a different setup I should run for HOG. Do you still stack on the wall using inc duration or just a short stack with less dur, etc.

I would have to ask the originator, but I think you don't use increased or Less duration. Just damage stuff. Fire pen might be the best but burning damage is also an option. For the 1 master that u can't kill he uses a 5 link Searing touch with Scorching ray.

For general clearing 3 arrows should be enough since we use ignite prolif.

Added videos for Ascendant. Kudos to F4F_Lucifer for the awesome gameplay!

What do you think about using Scorching ray for single target with Searing touch in weapon swap as @Dsfarblarwaggle suggested in his guide?
