Help convince me to play this game

A Reddit post I found most interesting concerning how I see the game's endgame content.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/42c475/is_anyone_else_getting_sick_of_midtier_maps/#bottom-comments

TLDR: I'm considering switching to this game from diablo becuase this game has a lot more depth. However, diablo has grindyness but also an end game progression (Grifts) with a tangible purpose to them. I hope you can convince me that this reddit post is dated or that my assumptions are wrong.

In diablo you do the highest content possible to upgrade your gems/gear augments to hopefully push even higher as well as just leveling in general.

Most of the time you are not farming this content but it has a clear purpose.

IN POE it seems that you do the farming content and there is no real reason to do the challanging content other than just cause. There is no progression to it. In fact I had to dig a lot to find that it even exists.

I would also like to note since most red maps will be rippy or slow you down via temp chains, monster life, enfeeble, etc. Unless your playing solo or have a top tier party build running yellow maps will probably be better for xp/h and loot.
The most significant statement in this entire thread. People really need to pay attention to this. The player with probably the most level 100's in PoE is telling you that the most efficient way to level to 100 is by running T11 maps and below. GGG is NOT gating the highest tier maps behind RNG because it would make leveling to 100 too easy yet dozens of people in this thread seem to think they are.

Running T11 and under with a sprinkle of T12+ here and there is the most cost effective way to get 100 (ie single pack) if rolling double pack is too expensive / there are too many map mods your build cant handle.

I think this right here is a sign something should change. There should be a few basic goals for end-game:
The people pushing for the top should want to run the highest/hardest content possible.
The casuals should have an easy time trying out that high-end content, but have trouble doing it (until far later when they've had more time to gear up/level up).
When the people pushing for the top say, "meh, not worth it" and the casuals say "there's top-end content?", ya done screwed up your game.

The economy just isn't ready early on to push red maps since it requires too much chaos. Also you need a good solo build or a really good party build/composition (no leech builds) to clear red maps at a pace that makes them actually better then yellow maps.
It's not necessarily a bad thing as it stops stuff like 1.3 flameblast (95% end game geared 12h-20h in) and can possibly allow more builds to competitive even if the gear is expensive.

And that's what I'm talking about, a change. A change in what it takes to roll/run/sustain them and/or the rewards for attempting it.
And it's not like later in the league, we're seeing it shift, so the timing of the league doesn't really matter.

Just play it one time since they've added so many acts and then quit. That is what I'll do. They've done so many bad decisions I stopped supporting them a long time ago.

EDIT: And one of the most stupid things of all is that spectres still are lost when server crashes or you DC

EDIT 2: No matter how many bad decisions they do on this game, it will still be better than D3 so don't insult this game comparing it to that trash D3 is.

well your reddit post is over a year old

the reason for running maps is mainly to make you way to the shaper

who is a very hard end game boss

but its also to get better loot and more $$$ to buy better loot

and then you can run higher maps and get closer to shaper

thats the atlas of the different maps and how you sort of make your way to the ultimate end game boss
I dont see any any key!
It's enormously overblown and entails very specific goals certain people obsess over as 'finishing' the game. The endgame is ten times more diverse and satisfying than GRifts ever were to me.

(Also, if you want to enjoy the game more, I highly suggest running away from the forums and reddit. They're cesspools of reactionary negativity.)

It takes quite a while to actually get to the point those people are at, and the journey's free. It's 'just' free time, if you don't end up liking PoE enough, is that really such a big loss? :)

I personally have never even finished the end-game stuff, for what it's worth: haven't beaten Guardians, the Shaper, or uberAtziri. The large variety of gameplay options keeps me around and I'm perfectly content not bringing my characters all the way to that final step. I don't often get bored with grinding Maps because I spend time doing other things a lot too (leveling other characters, muck around with Prophecies, that kinda stuff). The more one values making different characters, the more mileage PoE offers - but even for a single character, there's a lot to see and do. For free.
forgot to mention...

its free!

give it a shot

come Friday there will be ten acts of story to play through!
I dont see any any key!
I've been playing this game for what... five years now?

So play it. If you don't like it, quit. It's not like you're getting married or anything.

I even took a break of about 4 months to play D3... and you know what? PoE let me back! It didn't even hold a grudge!

It's always annoying when somebody has to post "Convince me to play."

Just no. Either try it and find out or don't bother asking. Only you can choose if it's desirable to you.
