Heyo!

Imagine you have 5 jewels with 10% spell or lightning damage each. This is how they affect your damage:

((0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1)+1) * Base Damage

assuming your base damage is 100, this results in 150.

If we add critical strike jewels to that formular, lets say 4 with 10% each, this is what happens:

((0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1)+1) * ((0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1)+1) * Base Damage

wich results in 210. You can see that 5 "increased damage" jewels add 50 damage, while 4 "critical strike multiplier" jewels add 60, even tho we have one less.

In short: all your increases are additive, where crit multiplier is an additive/multi hybrid.


Beside that - the jewel mods you listed are the next best choices.

PoB is bad to calculate this build's damage output. Beside the fact that the damage is calculated as Ball Lightning could only hit once per cast, this build's damage comes from multiple other sources (such as Choir of the Storm's Lightning Bolt).

To evaluate the damage, just check one of the Shaper videos on top of the buildguide.

When i compare Shaper's lifebar drop with builds that have correct PoB numbers, the DPS should be around 1 - 1.5 mio. Prolly higher with all flasks up.

The DPS seems kind of insane. Would you recommend this build as a league starter? I can imagine the swap to ES being kind of though, but I can overcome that in general. Is the damage their for low red maps if you do not have Choir of Storms yet?

Also would you say choir of storms is more important then a 6-link?

It is possible to play this build both, es and life based. You can check my PoE profile for both variants.

I can not recomend this as a HC leaguestarter, if you are not confident with the playstyle of Ball Lightning. The phase between level 50 and 80 might be a hard time. If you play softcore and it is okay for you to die occasionaly - go ahead and start with it. Once you have the proper gear and some experience, you wont die at all on maps beyond T16 anymore.

Choir of the Storm is atleast as big as an 6L. You want to get the small version of the amu as soon as possible, and upgrade it once you reached the level requirements.

Looks interesting, never made an ES based character and this seems nice. Not sure if I should go low life or CI then. Gotta wait until I got some more currency and maybe a shaped ring with warlords mark though. I assume not much changed with the recent updates? No VP since 3.0 but that should be fine I guess

I recomend CI, you will barely get chaos immun without sacrificing lots of ES. No recent changes, indeed.

Does Hysteria dagger worth a try? (10% chance to trigger Lv.20 Fire Burst on hit) Seems a viable option for weapon slot.

Let me see if I can buy one in standard. I'm so done with Bestiary. Cant quite farm enough currency to self-craft one.
